Re: Sportif Cross Cup Series
All,
It is with great disappointment that we must announce a hiatus of the Sportif Cross Cup series for the 2020 season. For the past couple of months, the directors and promoters of the series, along with MABRA directors, have been in discussions on the viability of holding cyclocross events in accordance with USA Cycling, state and local jurisdiction guidelines. We have been following the trends of the pandemic and actions taken by the governing bodies. The health and safety of our riders, spectators, promoters and volunteers is a priority and, without a vaccine or successful treatment options in place, we don’t feel that safety can be provided. Therefore, we are in agreement that it would not be prudent to hold the Sportif Cross Cup series for 2020.
Some may see this announcement as premature but while the cyclocross season is still a few months away, planning needs to take place now with permits due and sponsors in place. With several events already stating their cancelation, and more to likely follow, we feel it would not be possible to plan for a successful series at this time.
It is certainly a disappointment, I’m sure, for both us and all of our participants especially with the cancellation of so many events already this year. We can only hope that 2021 brings a better future and this hiatus gives us a renewed energy to come back next season.
With that said, there is still the possibility that events slated for later in the season may be able to be held independent of the series. This will be entirely up to the decision of the promoters, based on the trends of the pandemic and all of the required guidelines. Additional information on each event will be posted by MABRA and the promoters, so keep an eye on the schedule and please support those events if it is possible and safe to do so.
Thank you for supporting each of the races in the Sportif Cross Cup series. We look forward to seeing everyone again in 2021. Keep riding, stay safe and healthy!
