Recognizing that there was no real option for the large majority of recreation level baseball players who wanted to play summer All-Star style baseball, a group of volunteers decided to create a series of tournaments that would provide such an experience for the youth of Central Texas. From its humble beginnings in 2000, when a few teams from four local associations competed, it has grown to over
11 associations and seen as many as 89 different teams from all over the Central Texas area compete and enjoy the game of baseball. Still organized and run by an all volunteer committee and volunteer coaches, participants from Cedar Park, Georgetown, Liberty Hill, Lake Travis, Pflugerville, Round Rock, Lago Vista, Oak Hill, Wimberley and Austin (Town and Country Optimist and Central Austin Youth Association) play in age groups ranging from five to 14 years old. The Centex Classic Series celebrates baseball by remaining true to the spirit of our National Pastime and the growth of the Series proves that baseball still has the power to bring our Central Texas communities together and create family memories that will last a lifetime. Players compete in three weeks of pool play to be seeded based on their performance and advance to an exciting College World Series style double elimination tournament on the final weekend of the Series.
