Meet our 2022 Lorna Strassler Award recipient: Kannen Glanz!
Each spring, dancers from all across the United States & abroad apply to study at The School at Jacobβs Pillow.
Only one will earn the Lorna Strassler Award for Student Excellence. π
Founded in 2004 by former Jacobβs Pillow Trustee, Lorna Strassler, and her husband, this prize provides a full scholarship and a cash prize. Lorna Strassler Award recipients are selected based on performance skill excellence, a demonstrated unwavering dedication to the arts, and vision of their role in dance.
βThere is a quote from that has stuck with me so deeply since I first heard it: 'As a dancer, you have nothing to prove, only everything to share.'
That piece of knowledge has helped me move forward in my dance career because it helped me reevaluate how I presented my dancing to others.
At first, I wanted to ensure that whoever I performed for saw only perfect technique and no choreographic mistakes, but now all I desire is for an audience member to simply witness the experience I am having onstage while I am dancing and connect with it emotionally.
Hearing this from Mr. Myers and applying it to my performance work has allowed me to find even *more* freedom and joy in performing.β
