Teva Oriata Polynesian Dance Troupe Polynesian dance is a responsibility to maintain the culture, history, and stories of its people. We are not a production company. Please come and join us.

We are family friendly, village mindset, and a safe space for all. The large and diverse Oregon state is the only west coast state without a traditional pupu ori (Tahitian dance group). Teva Oriata is a dance school created from Angie Jackman's dream to share her passion of the Tahitian culture and beauty to the pacific northwest. With the sounds of the pahu drums and toere, the students will learn the physically challenging yet elegant dances of Tahiti. Students will learn the art and culture through traditional costume making, immersion in the language, and the true sense of aloha. Aloha is a Hawaiian word and way of life that encompasses the affection, respect, and love that we have for one another, and the goal is to instill these values into all of the students. Development of camaraderie and respect with their fellow dance feti'i (family) is inevitable and encouraged. Through dedication and commitment, the dancers will gain strength, discipline, and confidence. Most of all, students will develop and share the same passion for what they work so hard and fondly at. Students will be taught traditionally, not expeditiously to force performing. Performances are encouraged, not required. Three times a week Teva Oriata will offer dance classes for women ages 5 and up, and once a week for men 5 and up. Drumming classes for men and women will be taught based on demand. Tahitian dancing is a great workout, entertaining, and most of all fun!

We are incredibly proud to still bring these renowned masters of ʻOri Tahiti to the Pacific Northwest to share their knowledge, experience, and passion with our community. ❤️‍🔥

Our ‘Ori Nui i Portland competition needed to be postponed again, but we didn’t want the chance for learning and cultural exchange to be lost. Instead, we’re turning this moment into an opportunity to learn, connect, and grow together. Join us for an incredible day of workshops!

There’s something so powerful about coming home to your culture. 🤎🌺

Meet a few of our Teva Oriata dancers who joined our ‘ori journey with a deeper purpose—not only to reconnect with their Polynesian roots, but to create that connection for their children too.

For many of us, culture is more than dance. It’s identity. It’s family. It’s language, stories, traditions, and the responsibility to pass those things on to the next generation.

We’re honored to be a place where our dancers can learn, reconnect, and keep their heritage alive—together with their tamari’i. 🌴❤️

Rooted in culture. Connected through dance. Passing it forward.

We’re also honored to have been featured in “Oceania in Oregon,” a storytelling exhibit presented by students of the Oceania Capstone and Pacific Island Studies at Portland State University. The exhibit celebrated Pacific Islander communities throughout Oregon through photography, audio, cultural narratives, film, and personal stories exploring identity, migration, belonging, leadership, and the many experiences that make up Oceania in Oregon.

We’re grateful that our dancers’ stories—and the reasons they continue to seek connection to their culture—could be part of that story. 🌺

This week, we celebrate two incredible young women, Tulia(Baby Girl) and Angelyna, as they graduate from high school!😭😭😭

Watching these two grow—not only as dancers but as leaders, role models, and beautiful individuals—has been such a privilege. Through countless practices, performances, challenges, and achievements, they have represented our group with dedication, grace, and heart.

BG and Angelyna, thank you for sharing your talents, your hard work, and your aloha with Teva Oriata. From being the baby girl to the oldest wise sibling in your family, your commitment to preserving and sharing Polynesian culture has had a lasting impact on those around you and it really has been such a blessing to have you as my dancers! Both of your families have all been such a treasure and added bonus to have apart of the group too! 🥰🥹

As you take this next step into your future, know that we are incredibly proud of all you have accomplished and excited for all that is ahead. Wherever life takes you, you will always be part of our dance ʻohana/aiga.

Mahalo, Māuruuru, Ngā mihi, and Fa’afetai Lan Su Chinese Garden for your continued partnership and collaboration with bringing a day dedicated to Pacific Islanders to the garden and the community. On this last weekend of AANHPI month, we couldn’t have asked for a better way to end it. (We’ll still be celebrating all year though😜!)

It was a perfect sunshiny day of sharing culture, passion, and knowledge. Thank you to our vendors, dancers, and leaders that made the day possible!
