Ladies and gentlemen, WK Wildfire. A hometown team from 3 KY counties that have been to the final day of the World Series twice. They were top 3 of 51 this year and runner up 2 years ago.
A team that has kept nearly the same line up for over half a decade..
A team led by coaches that care about every player. A family from the dugout to the mom's and dad's. Girls that have grown together to become women and every one a lovely person.
These people have believed in at every turn. Led by a coach who told his daughter to sacrifice nearly half her at bats to help the team. A manager that gave of himself and his business to help every girl and when he got injured every girl cared about him. Assistant coaches that cared about every kid. They didn't focus on the kids from their county and not the other ones, even though most of the kids were district rivals to their own players. There were no favorites and no one got left out.
Players that stood with every single member of the team. There was no behind the back talk, and no cliques. When Wildfire is together everyone is a sister and everyone is included. They are the for two reasons, the obvious one because so many of their games came down to heart pounding plays, but also because every one of these girls has a heart the size of the moon. I can't say they don't occasionally get down, but when one does, that is what their sisters are there for. They pick them back up and get them back in the game.
These girls CARE about it. We have girls that have run for a pop foul, slid into the fence and missed the catch, only to come and apologize to everyone for not getting it. They fight for each other and not against EVERY TIME.
Finally they are a team with a rabid loyal following. All of you that have been the for all these years. Thank you for following their exploits on the field. It looks like for right now this is the end of their time together on the field, but don't leave yet, because we hope to document the lives of these awesome ladies as they progress through college and their own lives. Stay with us to see how these wonderful women become leaders in the world.
