This property is currently closed to the public. We hope to have it ready for the general public to rent in the future. The "Place on the Bayou" is a forty acre piece of land in north Beaumont, Texas on the Pine Island Bayou, a branch of the Neches River. The property borders the Big Thicket National Preserve to the north and east, therefore, the property seems much larger. Owned by the late Honorable Alfred S. Gerson, the property includes a 1,025 square foot lofted rustic cabin with wrap-around deck. This piece of land has hosted many parties and special events for organizations and friends since he purchased the property in 1963. In 1979 a disastrous fire on new years day destroyed the former home that once stood where the cabin stands today. Gerson decided to make his permanent home elsewhere, and make this property his retreat, and used an already existing building on the property to build the current cabin. Gerson, an avid outdoorsman, decorated the cabin with many pieces that show his sportsmanship. A rattlesnake poises to attack you in the bedroom, and an antelope peers down on you in the living room. The wrap-around deck, equipped with an endless amount of chairs, gives way to unique form of dense forest. A neighbor to the Big Thicket National Preserve, and with views of a small pond and the winding bayou, this piece of land makes you feel as if you are lost in the national forest.
