TVA Bear Creek Floatway

TVA Bear Creek Floatway The TVA Bear Creek Floatway is open to the public for canoeing, kayaking, fishing, camping, birdwatching, sightseeing, and picnicking.

The TVA Bear Creek Floatway flows from Upper Bear Creek Dam into Bear Creek Reservoir and is a popular spot for teaching first-timers to negotiate rapids and work with the current. Below Bear Creek Dam, the Lower Bear Creek canoe trail provides a more leisurely float, running a total of 34 miles down the creek through Tishomingo State Park and all the way to Pickwick Landing Dam on the Tennessee R

iver. The Floatway is primarily a weekend activity when releases from Upper Bear Dam create a steady flow for recreation. Rated Class I to II for most of its course, there are some dangerous areas to be aware of. Just west of Hwy. 5 in Bear Creek is Old Mill Falls. Arguably a class IV fall and approximately 3 miles downstream is Upper Factory Falls and Lower Factory Falls which are Class III and VI falls. The water is released to create the floatway on all weekends and major holidays from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Those looking for a more leisurely run can float the stream during the week.
