I haven't posted anything about the course since Hurricane Helene because its nothing like the loss and devastation that so many have experienced. But today as I was out on the course, it was one of the first time I wasn't just sad at my loss and wanted to do a couple obstacles. Helene pretty much decimated the course, but we've been very slowly cleaning up, but to get it back to where it was will take years. Several of the obstacles had no damage at all, but today I found where someone has stolen 4 sets of ropes. We have had a lot of vandalism over the years, signs removed, changed direction, sand bags emptied or thrown across the tracks or in the woods, our spear throw obstacle thrown away or taken apart, boats floated across the pond or sunk, to name just a few.
But today really angered me, Daddy and I have always loved sharing the course and having something unique and challenging for all ages to enjoy at a very inexpensive price. One set of ropes that were stolen were from one of the first obstacles that Daddy and I put out there, I remember him tying the knots, I remember him retying and checking them several times, but he can't do that now.
I don't know if we'll reopen the course or not, is it worth it to share with others when there are folks who just don't care about trespassing and stealing?
If you know anyone that walks along the tracks between Piney Bluff Road and US 1 and they've shown up with "new to them" ropes, they stole them.
