This is hands down my favorite post of all time. It made me realize these small Tips/Strategy & Tactics that some know and use, might seem like common sense to us. However, there was a time when they weren't, we learned them from any information we could grab, magazines, Senior FF’s and videos. A small tip can be a career/life changer. Think about Probie School, I bet you there is one small trick you learned from a badass instructor that helped you out at a job. Here is 𝐓𝐎𝐏 𝐅𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐑 𝐓𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐒 from IG original post - ☆ TFT Quick Tip ☆
Fire on the top floor and the s**ts is on! The chief sends you and your company to the top floor of the exposure building or adjoining apartment to search for fire extension. Almost always you will be without a charged hose line, and believe me it seems like a lifetime when you actually call for one. Before you start poking holes and ripping ceilings down - HEAR ME OUT - Take a moment and seek out a closet in the apartment. You constantly hear about controlling the apartment door, and of course this is a measure that needs to be taken SERIOUSLY on the macro firefighting level. So, let’s break it down on a micro firefighting level. Closet doors believe it or not (especially turn of the century buildings) are as substantial as the main apartment door. Even a cheap hollow core door “by law” will buy you 20 minutes of burn time.
That being said. The next time you your pulling ceilings in the adjoining without a charged line, take that extra moment and find a closet - open up the ceiling inside like a gentleman - see what’s going on above you. If the s**t is on, simply close the closet door, call for a line and begin your primary before it gets s**tty. Believe me... I love pulling ceilings at top floor fires, it is the true essence of Truckie firefighting.
However, this is an opportunity where you can truly shine as a senior firefighter and show your professionalism by identifying a closet door and acting accordingly.
