Spirit Coach Spotlight: Jane Hynum

Coach Jane Hynum is entering her 11th year at Beekman Charter School and serves as the varsity dance coach for our BCS Belles. Mrs. Hynum also teaches 7th and 8th grade social studies.

She has a bachelors degree in business from the University of Louisiana-Monroe and a Masters degree in teaching from Northwestern State University. She is currently working on adding Computer Science certification to her academic achievements. Mrs. Hynum is a native of Beekman and attended Beekman Junior High and is a graduate of Bastrop High School.

After many years in a corporate working environment, Mrs. Hynum began her teaching and coaching career at Beekman Charter in the spring of 2016. She has used her 9 years of experience as a Zumba instructor to help the varsity dance team achieve multiple bids to attend NDA Nationals in Orlando and hopes this year they will return to compete for their 5th time. She looks forward to an exciting year filled with growth for her team!

Coaching Spotlight: Greg Hill

Coach Greg Hill is entering his first season as Beekman Charter School’s head football coach. Coach Hill was named the Athletic Director and Head football coach on December 17, 2025. He has 15 years of experience as a coach and educator. He is married to his wife, Emily and is the dad to Avery and Levi.

Coach Hill has coached at Franklin Parish, Caldwell, Sterlington, Union, Wossman, and Darbonne Woods. He has a bachelors degree from ULM, a Masters of Arts from LA Tech, and a Masters +30 in Educational Leadership from LSUS. Coach Hill is originally from Columbia, LA where he attended and played at Caldwell Parish High School.

Coach Hill will teach PE and will help in powerlifting. He plans to continue coaching offensive line and special teams for the Tigers in the fall. His expectations, great energy, accountability, and ability to connect with athletes make him an asset at BCS. Most importantly, he will be a strong example for our young men in how they compete, lead, and represent Beekman every day.

Coach Hill plans to lead Beekman’s football program toward success and establish a tradition of developing student-athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom.

He looks forward to continuing to help grow Beekman Charter and our athletic programs.

Coaching Spotlight: Tommy Tharp

Coach Tommy Tharp is entering his first year at Beekman Charter. Coach Tharp comes to us from Winnfield Senior High where was the offensive coordinator. He has 38 years of experience as a coach and educator.

Coach Tharp has a bachelors degree from Northeast Louisiana University and is a proud ULM fan. He has coached in Alabama, Tennessee, and Louisiana.

Coach Tharp will teach PE and computer lab next school year. He will serve as the defensive coordinator and assistant head coach for the Tigers. Coach Tharp’s experience, expertise, and work ethic are huge for BCS football. He has a strong working relationship with Coach Griffin and Coach Hill.

He looks forward to continuing to help grow Beekman Charter and our athletic programs. Welcome Coach Tharp to our school and community!

Coaching Spotlight: Cory Hawkins

Coach Cory Hawkins is entering his 3rd year at Beekman Charter. Coach Hawkins works as the facilities coordinator for CommuniHealth and is a CECP assistant for the football team where he helps coach blocking backs and linebackers.

He has a bachelors degree from East Texas Baptist but is a native of Hahnville, LA where he attended and played at Hahnville High school.

Coach Hawkins has a son that plays for the Tigers in both football and baseball (Trystan). He looks forward to continuing to help grow Beekman Charter and our athletic programs.

Coaching Spotlight: Micah Griffin

Coach Micah Griffin is entering his 1st year at Beekman Charter. Coach Griffin comes to us from Winnfield, where he played and coached.

He has a bachelors degree from Northwestern State University and will teach math at BCS.

Coach Griffin came highly recommended from other coaches as a good young coach. He will serve as the offensive coordinator for the Tigers in football while coaching the running backs. Coach Griffin also has experience coaching baseball, where he will also coach for the Tigers.

He looks forward to continuing to help grow Beekman Charter and our athletic programs. Welcome Coach Griffin to our school and community!

Coaching Spotlight: Dylan Breshears

Coach Dylan Breshears is entering his 8th year at Beekman Charter. Coach B teaches math, and coaches offensive line and special teams for the Tigers. He is also a softball assistant. Coach Breshears began his coaching career at Beekman Charter in 2019.

He has a bachelors degree from ULM. He also intends to pursue a Masters of Education.

Coach B is a native of Smackover, AR where he attended and played football, baseball, golf, tennis, and track at Smackover High School.

Coach B’s wife also works at The Charter in the elementary special education department. Their oldest daughter plays for the Tigers’ junior high softball, basketball, track and cheer teams. She is going into 7th Grade this year. Their middle daughter is heading to first grade at BCS, and their youngest daughter is not so patiently waiting to join the rest of the Breshears family at BCS.

Coach B fell in love with the Bastrop/Beekman community years ago after coming to work as a Student Pastor at North Church Bastrop and has loved growing with his family and making it home!

He looks forward to continuing to help grow Beekman Charter and our athletic programs.

Coaching Spotlight: Rex McCarthy

Coach Rex McCarthy is entering his 26th year in coaching. He is the defensive line coach for the Tigers as well as an assistant track coach.

Coach Rex has a Bachelor's degree from Northeast Louisiana University (NLU) where he also played football. He is a from Winnsboro, LA where he attended and played at Winnsboro High School.

Coach Rex has coached at Lake Providence Junior High, Winnsboro Junior High, Winnsboro High, Franklin Parish High, Tensas High, Madison Junior High, Ferriday High, and Beekman Charter.

Coach Rex has a lot of experience and knowledge. He is a great person and our kids are lucky to have him. He looks forward to continuing to help grow Beekman Charter and our athletic programs.

Coach Mitch Stephens is entering his 4th year at Beekman Charter. He is a junior high baseball and football coach for the Tigers. He also helps the varsity on Friday nights.

Coach Mitch has a Bachelor's of Science in Criminal Justice from Louisiana State University at Alexandria. Coach Mitch is from Bastrop, LA where he attended and played at Bastrop high school.

Coach Mitch Stephens began his coaching career in 2021 at Beekman Charter School with the install of the elementary football program, he has 3 years of coaching and teaching experience as a staff coach working with Elementary PE.

Coach Mitch has 2 sons that play for the Tigers football team and one coming through the junior high program. He looks forward to continuing to help grow Beekman Charter and our athletic programs.
