Player Spotlight - #0, Joey Laudando, Senior, JV Midfielder

Joey just started playing lacrosse this season. "Lacrosse has been a new sport, a lot of my friends are on the team and play, I’ve always thought it (lacrosse) was kind of cool, coming out here messing around with some of the guys and learning how to play a new sport.”

Joey enjoys the playing a new sport and taking on new challenges.

“Being my first week and a half in, I’ve learned not to stress over things, stay calm and collected, really focus on getting better and just play your game.”

In addition to lacrosse, Joey has been a successful 4-year football player, and hopes to take things he’s learned in other sports into Lacrosse. “My goal as a player is to improve and learn more about the sport, make new friendships and bonds, and have fun.”

Joey plans to stay local after high school, attending COD and playing football for the first 2 years, and “hopefully transfer out with a scholarship after that.”

Player Spotlight - #26 Rachel Hovious, Junior, BHS, U-46 Girls Lacrosse team Captain Midfield/Defense

Rachel joined the girl’s lacrosse team this season, stepping onto the field for the very first time. Rachel said, “(Lacrosse) just sounded very interesting, my friends and I wanted to join something for the spring season.”

Rachel says about lacrosse that “It’s a lot of teamwork, and we’ve done a lot of team-buliding, and it’s been a great way to meet new people,” and with the team drawing from all over the district for players, she’s met and made many new friends.

When asked about individual and team goals, Rachel says, “our team goals are to score goals, win games, and make the best out of the season because a lot of the girls are first year players.” Rachel hopes this team can set the standard going forward for girls Lacrosse in district U-46. Individually, Rachel wants to “stick with it, do my best and improve,” as a lacrosse player. “It’s a lot of fun, its a little more running than I thought it would be, but it’s really fun.”

Rachel was a BHS cheerleader her freshman and sophomore years, and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Player Spotlight - #1 Nick Deckard, Senior, Varsity Goalie

Nick has been playing Lacrosse since he was 8 or 9. He took on the position of goalie during a youth tournament when the team’s goalie quit unexpectedly, and has been minding the goal ever since. “Being a goalie requires having a leadership mentality, so I feel thats always helped me become who I am, telling guys what they need to do on the spot.”

Nick has set his standards high this season, stating that his goals are to "be the best player I can be, and the best leader I can be”, And that he wants his fellow seniors to establish a high standard of discipline and energy to the team at practices. He says that, “Once we establish all those things, we can establish a winning team.”

Nick is a multi-sport athlete, having finished his final season as a football player at Bartlett High School with multiple awards, including team MVP and All-Area in football, and a leadership award during last year’s Lacrosse season.

After High School, Nick plans to attend Western Illinois University having earned an army ROTC scholarship, majoring in exercise science with a minor in coaching.
