It is with great excitement to announce and welcome back Matt Dawson as the Program Director of the Attitash Race Team. Matt returns with more than 26 years of coaching experience and a deep connection to both AAEF and ski racing throughout New England. His coaching career includes time at Black Mountain, Bretton Woods, and 19 years at AAEF, where he spent six years as Program Director. He has also worked for a decade with Tichy Racing, helping athletes at summer and fall training camps.
Since 2022, Matt has been at Stratton Mountain School. During his time there, he helped athletes qualify for Nationals, Eastern Championships, and CanAms while gaining valuable experience coaching at NorAm, FIS, and national training camps. His work has taken him to major events such as Sugarloaf Speed Week and Sun Valley, and even to Belgium, where he served as a coach and technician at a U.S. Ski & Snowboard national-regional training camp.
Matt returns to AAEF with a clear vision. He wants AAEF to be a standard for youth development in the state. “We will inspire all to continue to race beyond the program and help in that journey, wherever it may lead”.
He wants to help every athlete define and achieve their own version of success, whether that means competing at the highest levels, moving up the results board, carving their first turn, or simply building confidence and friendships through the sport. He is passionate about creating opportunities for athletes to challenge themselves, step outside their comfort zones, and discover what is possible both on and off the race course. As Program Director, Matt hopes to strengthen coach development, increase involvement in equipment and athlete preparation, and continue building AAEF into a leading model for youth ski racing development in New Hampshire and beyond.
In Matt’s words………… “We will reinforce personal growth through ski racing, as well as building that passion for skiing as a lifelong sport.”
Please join all of us to welcome home Matt Dawson.
