It's time to start thinking about a BTA spring doubles league. The league will play on Thursday evenings at 6:00 for 6 weeks starting April 16. The place will be at the courts behind the YMCA.

Cost will be $15 for BTA membership and $8 to pay for balls. This has not changed for several years.

If you want to play regularly or be placed on a substitute roster reply to this post and let us know. If you know of someone who may want to play and hasn't been part of BTA in the past, let us know. We hope to get 16 players to fill all 4 courts.

Are you ready for league play? We are starting this Thursday at 6:00 by the YMCA. I will be bringing balls and our Treasurer will be available to collect any fees.

We'll have to be flexible on court assignments. I only have 15 regular players as of now, so we will have a sub fill in the blank spot. Depending on who I can get to be that sub I may have to alter court assignments last minute. The good news is that everyone will get to play.

Spring tennis has snuck up on us. In the past we have had a doubles league during the 6 weeks leading up to Memorial Day. Since Easter is so late this year, that would put the start on Thursday before Easter. Instead of that, we are going to schedule the 6 weeks starting after Easter and ending the Thursday after Memorial Day.

This year the spring doubles league will begin Thursday April 24 and conclude on May 29. Play will start at 6:00 pm at the courts behind the YMCA. If there are any Thursdays that can't be played because of weather the season can be extended.

Let us know if you want to play in the league or if you want to be put on a sub list. We always need subs for when someone is not available in their regular slot.

Looking forward to seeing you in the league this spring!!

The heat of summer will be waning soon and the tennis courts will be calling. The BTA Fall Doubles League will begin Thursday September 5 and proceed for 6 Thursdays. Reply (do not "reply all") to this email if you are interested in playing in the league this fall.

Fees will remain the same as previous seasons. $8 to pay for balls for the league. $15 for BTA membership if you have not already paid for the year.

Format will be essentially the same. Each court of 4 players will play 3 sets, one with each of the other players. The player on the court with the most game wins will move up a court and the player with the least games won will move down a court.

If you want to play as a substitute let me know. Subs are always needed to fill in when one of the regular players has to miss a week.

You can always email me if you have any questions. If you know of others who might want to participate, spread the word. It's always great to get connected with other tennis players in the area.

If you wish to be removed from this email group let me know.

It should be another good season of tennis!

Door-to-door solicitors are out and about this week, which is legal in Bartlesville — as long as the solicitors have obtained a temporary permit from the Community Development Department before knocking on your door. Residents can ask to see the permit and, if the solicitor can't produce one, the City can suspend an existing permit, if there is one, or stop the solicitation.

In residential areas, door-to-door soliciting can only occur between the hours of 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. on any day except Sunday, when the hours are further restricted to noon to 6 p.m.

If a resident has a "No Solicitors," "No Soliciting," "No Trespassing" or similar sign on their property that can be easily seen by anyone approaching the door, solicitors are prohibited from attempting a sale at that residence.

Note that just because a solicitor has been issued a City permit, it is still a "buyer beware" system. City staff verifies the company exists in the state of Oklahoma, but staff have no way of verifying the legitimacy of the company or the product being sold.

We don't have enough regular players to fill courts this spring. We still want to get as many people playing as possible. We've put all those who want to play regularly into court assignments. We will fill in with substitutes. Since we will be using quite a few subs, we'll just go week to week not keeping track of overall scores for the season. If you've signed up, you can see on the spreadsheet, there is also an open court, so if more subs want to play any particular week, let us know and we can mix and match players to play with others at a similar level.

Since this will be more informal, we won't charge for a league fee (only the BTA membership fee) but we will supply balls for the courts anyway.

This will be some kind of a combination of planned and open mixer. We'll see how it goes and get as many people playing as we can.

See you on the courts!

Spring is here and it's about time for the 2023 BTA Spring Doubles League. The league will play for 6 Thursday evenings starting April 20 and ending before Memorial Day (weather permitting). BTA membership is required ($15 individual, $20 family) and an $8 league fee that includes balls for each of the evenings. We will follow the same format as previously. We also need several players to be substitutes for when a regular league player is not available.

If you are interested to play as a regular player or as a sub reply to this email (do not reply all) or contact me directly.

In case you're wondering, the city has decided to build Pickleball courts at Sooner Park and will not be impeding on the Johnstone tennis courts. If you get an opportunity, let the Parks department know you appreciate their decision.

Hope to see you on the courts this spring!

It's August and it's hot. Fall will soon be here and so will the BTA Fall Doubles League. The league will start Thursday September 8 and play each Thursday evening for 6 weeks. If you are interested in playing in the doubles league reply to the email below. I will need those who want to be regular players through the league and those who want to be a sub if you can't play very many of the Thursday evenings.

Let me know if you have any questions. I am looking forward to seeing many of you on the courts!

I hope many of you have been out in the good weather to enjoy some tennis. Due to Covid and other issues, our Bartlesville Tennis Association has not held a Spring Mixer and we may have missed the last couple of years. We have scheduled one for next Saturday, May 21st and hope many of you can attend.

Also, since we did not have our annual BTA meeting after the first of the year, we need to do that. We typically just elect officers, talk about our leagues, review anything that has been going on locally which affects tennis and open it up for discussion. We normally have done that on a cold, winter evening but it looks like those are gone for a while. In talking with some of the other officers, we decided to combine the two events this year. We will plan to meet at 8:15 on Saturday morning, May 21st around some breakfast snack food and hold a short meeting. Since I am not able to play much tennis these days, due to an old knee injury, I am looking for a replacement at the President position. We have a willing candidate (Tim Huff) who has agreed to take on the role. If there are others who should be considered, please contact one of the officers or nominate during the meeting. Jon Morgan has agreed to continue on as our League Coordinator and Christy Hall will carry on as Secretary-Treasurer. Charles Moll helps us with a page and Keith Naylor manages our website. Please give all of them a big thank you.

If you want to bring some fruit or finger food to get us started, please do that between 8 and 8:15. If you just want to come out and visit and/or play some tennis, we should get that started about 9:00. BTW, we will have this big event under the shelter by the courts behind the YMCA. We look forward to seeing you all.
Thanks,

BTA President
Jim D. Swezey
