We had an incredibly eventful weekend in Oxford Maine for the 250 weekend!
After truck problems and down to having to leave the car at home and skip the race Evan Levesque jumped in to save the day by driving the trailer and race car up for us on Friday morning! We arrived just in time for the SLM practice with driver Skip Stanley…after practice, a run back to Rochester, NH was on tap to get the repaired truck for the weekend.
Saturday we would roll into the track for Stone’s first attempt at an ACT late model race. We entered with very low expectations as some say this is one of the most competitive race series around not to mention he had yet to run a full race in the car not to mention over the past week we changed the car from front to back thanks to a huge amount of help from Jeremy Davis and Davis Chassis Works we can’t thank you enough!!!
Stone rolled out for first practice on old tires to get a feel for a track he has never raced on before then. Round two we went out to scuff tires before pitting to swap back to the old tires for the rest of the session.
As we were ready to rollout for round three the car wouldn’t start…had to use a jump pack to get it to start but it would not stay running…mom and Buzzette(Mimi) would jump in the truck to run for a new battery but after we rolled him back to the pits we found a bad pulley bushing on the alternator caused us to throw a belt. We learned that we had an uncommon pulley with none in the pits. Thank you to Skip Stanley who offered to let us run to his shop to get anything we might need…after two 45 minute wound trips and a stop at the auto parts store we hoped we might get it fixed…no dice!!! Couldn’t find the right size belt.
Stone ran the heat and consi with no alternator. For his first time in race form he was VERY competitive staying right with the lead pack!
With no fix available we made the call to charge the battery as much as possible and run until the battery gave up…with his transponder wires into his helmet blower (quickest thing we could wire to at almost 3am the other night) the call was made to clip the battery wire for the blower so it was going to be a long hot race for Stone!!!
We rolled out 27th out of 39 cars and Stone drove a fantastic race…avoiding multiple wrecks with the help of Bryce Saucier up in the spotters stand being his eyes…Thank you Bryce!!
We made a couple pit stops to check out the car and be sure the grill stayed clean as we were tying to save power not running the radiator fan…
Crew chief David Cameron made the call to bring Stone in for a stager adjustment where Buzz (Larry Dumais) showed at 83 he still has it going over the wall to handle the tire adjustment to get Stone set for the closing laps. Thank you both for making it happen on pit stops!
Stone would loose just 1 lap under green in the 125 lap race (lost a second when he spun on the front stretch to avoid a wreck).
We would finish the day +6 in 21st place (he was up to (19th at one point) with the car in one piece…far far far exceeded our expectations!!!
Matthew Bolz and Curtis Cameron were there all day doing what needed to be done for us to pull off race days like these! Thank you both!

Sunday we would be back at the track for the Oxford 250 with Skip Stanley with Stone handling the spotter duties for the day…while a lap 92 wreck ended our night early it was a great experience with an even better group of people!!!
