Let's talk about silencers! (This is probably going to be another long one. Sorry about that.)

After months of deliberation, the ATF has finally issued a statement to the world regarding the status of silencers and their transfers.

The gist of it is that, effective immediately, the ATF will not be conducting any enforcement action against transfers of silencers using the same track we use for regular fi****ms (4473) instead of the more traditional silencer track (Form 4).

There are a couple of important things to take from this. The first of which is that we have to realize that the law hasn't changed. The National Fi****ms Act (NFA) as written still prohibits the transfer of silencers via 4473. It will take an act of Congress to change the actual wording of the law.

However, the ATF, the agency tasked with upholding and enforcing this law, has agreed with the Texas court who recently found the current framework of the NFA unconstitutional, and they will no longer enforce the law as written.

State laws regarding silencers do still apply. Here in VT, that doesn't mean a lot. We don't have any state level laws concerning the purchasing of possession of silencers, but other states do. If you decide to take your silencer to a prohibited state, they will still have an issue with that.

Silencers still have to be purchased in your state of residence, and you still have to be 21 to do so.

On the ground level, what this means for you and I is that you can now walk into a store, fill out a 4473 background check form, wait your obligatory 72 hours and take your silencer home without having to submit fingerprints and a photograph to the ATF. Though, you can if you want to. The Form 4 still exists and is still a viable option if you want to travel the more officially legal path.

Effective immediately, we at R&L will be allowing silencers to leave the store on a 4473 after a 72 hour wait. We expect this practice to continue until Congress takes up the issue once more and makes an official change to the NFA, one way or another.

There is a lot more to the nuts and bolts of this change, but for now I hope this suffices to keep everyone informed.

If these early season results don't motivate you to get out that bow and get into the woods, I give up. We've seen a total of 22 deer thus far, including 4 six-pointers--one of them tipping the scales at 212 pounds! Check the Successful Hunters page on our website for all the stats.

Now that bow season has officially started, it is time to start looking forward to the next season. Early Muzzleloader is only 3 weeks away.

Today we have Woodman .50 projectiles in either 275 or 300 gr at 50% off. We may not have a bunch of Blackhorn for you, but at least we can get you these.
