BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lees-McRae College Director of Cycling Tim Hall announced Joe Penley as the Assistant Men's Cycling Coach at Lees-McRae. Penley is a 2022 graduate of Lees-McRae College and returns to Banner Elk after working at Cabarrus Cycling Company in Kannapolis, North Carolina.

The news we have been waiting for in Banner Elk! Our team facility has had water pressure for a few days now, so it's good to know we can safely fill up our bottles for rides next week. The team moves back to campus this Sunday!

Water update from the Town of Banner Elk: Good news! The Boil Water Advisory issued Tuesday for those customers that had water pressure has been lifted. 80% of town has water. Our system operator has reported that results of the test conducted were good, with no signs of bacteriological growth and Chlorine residuals are at normal levels.
We are issuing a boil water advisory for Elk Creek Drive which has just received water pressure. We will continue to update the list of areas under boil water advisories as water pressure is restored to additional areas.

Mother Nature spoke loud and clear. This is a common sight on our trails. We have countless trees down, and for the foreseeable future all our trails are CLOSED to the public.

This restoration project will require extensive manpower, machinery, and a long time to complete. Some cleanup has occurred, but there’s a long way to go. The bulk of the work will be done by a professional crew. We ask locals, please do not show with your chainsaw to help. The tree work needing to be done is dangerous, and the only people allowed will be college approved.

For two decades we have poured our heart and soul into our trails. We know everyone loves and appreciates them as much as we do. We will make every effort to complete this project as soon as possible, but it may take longer than desired due to winter approaching. Therefore, we ask for your patience and understanding. We will keep you updated on our progress, and alert you when any or all are reopened.

Step back, and be aware. One week from today our team and all students return to campus for in-person classes. Improvements have been made, with much more on the way. Our community will be stronger when every Bobcat sets foot back in Banner Elk. We welcome their return!
