e Club's recreational amenities are an elegant 50,000 square foot Clubhouse, an 18 hole Championship Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, a comprehensive Equestrian Center and Saddle Club, and complete Tennis, Swimming and Fitness facilities. Elk River is the first course in North Carolina designed by golfing legend Jack Nicklaus and is a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course. Nicklaus' philosophy was twofold: design a course that would blend the beauty and contour of the natural landscape and, make it interesting yet playable for the golfer. His success has been bourne out in the reactions of members and their guests who continue to revel in the experience of playing at Elk River. The Elk River Equestrian Center is one of the finest in Western North Carolina. It is located on nearly 40 acres of fenced pasture and paddock. Within the stable there are 22 stalls, two tack rooms, inside and outside wash racks, and a member's lounge for relaxation. Adjacent to the stable are rings for riding and jumping, and beyond that are miles of riding trails on over 100 acres of riding preserve. The Equestrian Center appeals to both members who own horses and those who simply enjoy riding. The Elk River Club Tennis Center is located just a few hundred feet from the Clubhouse. The four Har-Tru courts are conditioned for comfortable play and are ideal for every level of tennis enthusiast. Whether you are a weekend player or tounament tough, tennis at Elk River is a unique experience. Elk River members also enjoy a beautiful pool and complete fitness center. The 2400 square foot pool complex consists of a lap pool with a maximum depth of four and one-half feet, a wading pool, men's and ladies' locker rooms and saunas. It is landscaped with a stunning waterfall and large deck for entertaining. The Elk River Fitness Center is a complete workout facility that includes a state-of-the-art line of equipment by Nautilus, in addition to treadmills, stationary bicycles, step machines, and much more. A fitness director is also available throughout the season to aid members in designing a fitness program to meet their specific needs. Elk River may be exclusively secluded, but it isn't isolated. One of the most unusual and convenient advantages for Elk River residents is the 4,600 foot, on-premise Jetport. It adds new meaning to the word "accessibility" and makes Elk River readily available, accommodating both private and corporate aircraft. Access is controlled by a manned security gate.
