Full time RVing 2016 to present

We started October in Oregon with Dan finishing up some RV repais while Karla was in San Diego County to help her mom house hunt and prepare her mom's condo for sale. While in southern Californina, Karla managed a few medical tasks including having MOHS surgery (removing a basal cell carcinoma). Then it was time to head south making our way down the coast to Central California.

Slow September days found us walking along the sandy shores, picking more strawberries, seeing slugs and salamanders, and saying goodbye to the Oregon coast. We settled in to our leased site a little further inland to do some much needed trailer maintenance, while Karla took the opportunity to take a quick trip to San Diego to see her mom and meet her grand nephew.

August might be our favorite time here on the Oregon coast. The weather is near perfect, it's berry picking season, and the farmstand is full of fresh fruits and vegetables. We did have to make an unexpected trip up to Newport, Oregon, to meet with an rv repair tech to update our firmware on our solar power energy management system, but even that was a fun adventure. The RV park was located at a marina adjacent to Rogue Brewery. We could walk over for beers and a burger! With Karla's knee on the mend, we were able to play some disc golf and explore more.

Mando has really taken to the RV lifestyle. Maybe it's the constant attention that he gets. He sure is cute though.

The Tufted Puffin can be found throughout the North Pacific Ocean and easily identified by its red bill and yellow tufts. We came upon a larger than life sculpture of one created by the Washed Ashore organization. They created this sculpture entirely from beach debris with the aim of educating the public about plastic pollution and encouraging change.

Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge includes many rocks, reefs, and islands along the coast. These spaces are preserved for the many nesting seabirds, seals, and sea lions of this area. We visited one of Coquille Point section in Bandon where there was a nice bluff which looked out to the rocky islands beyond the shore. Indeed, many species of seabirds were present soaring along the bluff.

One of Mando's favorite activities is playing catch with this orange ball. Yes the ball is specific. One time we went to the beach, and we only had a slightly larger red ball. Well when I threw the red, ball he didn't pick it up. He just stared at me waiting for me to throw his favorite ball. So now we make sure we have one of these orange balls packed in the truck.

July..well after a few months here it may seem like more of the same. More windsurfing, more walks and ball time with Mando, more frogs and snakes, more berry picking! We are not complaining. July was more of what we love here on the Oregon Coast.

Port Orford Heads State Park has some really nice trails which meander along the bluff yielding superior coastal views. We have enjoyed hiking here on many occasions. This year we are limited to only accessible trails due to Karla's knee injury. Still, we were able to visit one of our favorite local spots, this time with Mando, who seemed to really enjoy the nature smells more than the stunning views.

One of the things we really enjoy doing while we are on the Oregon coast, is well, going to the coast. Most times we have the beach to ourselves to let Mando run and jump and chase the ball. We do have to dress warm though, even at the height of summer.

There’s nothing quite like picking your own berries. It makes for a fun afternoon adventure and is great to do when there isn't enough wind to windsurf. We went to Valentine Blueberries where they have set aside 7 acres for u-pick blueberries. The day we went the farm was hosting Driftwood's Ready, Set, Learn and Bandon's Summer Youth programs to pick blueberries. The kids looked like they enjoyed getting to pick their own berries and learning about growing their own food. I know we enjoyed the adventure as well as the blueberry cornbread we made when we got home.
