September 14, 1976 At Memorial Stadium, Dennis Martinez makes his major league debut, pitching 5.2 innings of shutout baseball in relief to get the win in the Orioles' 9-7 victory over the Tigers.

The Granada native, who will win 245 games, was the first person from Nicaragua to appear in a major league game.

September 6, 1996, Eddie Murray of the Baltimore Orioles becomes the 15th player in major league history to hit 500 home runs when his seventh-inning solo shot goes deep, knotting the score at 3-3 off Tiger pitcher Felipe Lira at Camden Yards.

The Los Angeles native joins Hank Aaron and Willie Mays as the only players to reach this milestone and also have three thousand hits.

Happy Birthday Frank Robinson

August 31, 1935 Frank Robinson was born in Beaumont, Tx. As a player, he was the only MVP in both the AL and NL, and won two World Series titles with the Orioles. (August 31, 1935 – February 7, 2019).

He was also the first black manager in the Major League Baseball in a fashion similar to his high school teammate Bill Russell, as player-manager of the Cleveland Indians in the last stage of his playing career.

He sacrificed 3000 to 3500 hits and 600 Homeruns and Maybe 700 Home runs to become the first Black Manager. He believed it was more important to Open the door as a manager than personal goals. He won managed teams that were in last place turned them around to winners then the owners broke up the team rather than getting players that Frank Robinson wanted to help the team win which is why he had a losing managing record.

He also managed the Giants and Expos/Nationals; in fact, he was the last manager for Montréal.

He shared induction into Hall of Fame with Hank Aaron.

Three teams have honored Robinson with statues:

In 2003, the Reds dedicated a bronze statue of Robinson at Great American Ball Park.

In 2012, the Orioles unveiled a bronze statue of Robinson at Oriole Park at Camden Yards as part of the Orioles Legends Celebration Series.

In 2017, the Indians unveiled a bronze statue of Robinson in front of Progressive Field.

Hall of Famer Jim Palmer (New York, NY) registered 20 or more victories for the Baltimore Orioles eight times in nine seasons from 1970 to 1978. During that dominant stretch, he compiled a 176-97 record (.645 winning pct.), earned the American League Cy Young Award three times, led the league in innings pitched four times and ERA twice.

The only season that Palmer failed to win 20 games between 1970 and 1978 was in 1974, when he missed eight weeks with an elbow problem that did not require surgery, and went 7-12 in 26 starts. He dropped seven straight decisions before going on the disabled list on June 20 that year and returned to action in August.

The Nicaraguan right-hander, known as 'El Presidente,' pitches a perfect eighth inning in the Braves' 7-5 victory over the San Francisco.

Dennis Martinez had an impressive record of 245–193 and ERA of 3.70.

In 2002, he was inducted into the Baltimore Orioles Hall of Fame

In 2016, Martínez was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame.
