I was talking with some people today about the club, and there was a little confusion about what our club is all about. I updates our information a little bit, but i will include some information here as well...
Are you an avid runner that would love to combine your athleticism with one of your favorite hobbies. Or maybe you hate running and need more motivation to pound the pavement or hit the treadmill. Either way, our Will Run 4 Beer Virtual Running Club will hopefully help motivate you with GREAT CRAFT BEERS!!!
There are no membership dues or fees, you become a member of our club “Will Run 4 Beer” by simply liking our page and being someone who either loves Craft Beer or Running… or both!
Virtual running, also known as a virtual race, is an event that can be run at any location at any time at any pace. You can walk, use the treadmill, run outside or you can participate in another "real-world" race. It's completely up to you! You can run your race at your own pace wherever and whenever you like. Is the distance too long? Not a problem! You can break the distance up over multiple days if you choose.
Ok, so why would you give your hard-earned money to run by yourself, without a real course you may be asking...
Short answer -The badass hardware! Inspired by different breweries throughout the country, each event medal will be carefully designed with the corresponding charity partner in mind as well. Our medals are produced by Crown Awards and typically arrive a few days after registration closes. We will then individually repackage all of the medals and send them out to you.
Long answer - We will be donating to various charities by organizing virtual running events designed to promote walking/running/crawling/cycling, provide unique and awesome medals, and most importantly, raise money for these deserving charities in order to accomplish our mission of Doing Good Things in the World… One Beer at a Time! Plus the comradery, we welcome everyone to photos of themselves or photos of your GPS watch, Nike+ app, Map My Run, or any other means to the Facebook Event page for each race (and don't forget to post it to your own personal timeline!) so you can receive the congratulations you deserve! You can also use Instagram with and your pictures will appear on our Instagram feed
You can register for an event by using the Tickets link in the Facebook event. This will take you to Eventbright.com, which is the site we use to coordinate our race registrations. Each registration costs $30 and includes your unique custom finisher's medal, neck ribbon, mile tracker sheet and an invitation to post race party where you can enjoy beer from the brewery.
Registration for each event will be open for about a month or until the announced registration limit is reached.
Injured? Please wait until you're healthy! If you've registered, you will receive your medal no matter what. Complete the distance whenever and however you are able.
Also, you don't need to submit a time to get your medal. Will Run 4 Beer does not require you to post proof of your run as we operate on the honor system. If you're registered, you will get your medal...it's up to you to complete the distance.
Here is some more information:
-Our medals will contain the brewery logo, with our own twist to it. Making them one of a kind showcase piece for any beer lover or runner. On the opposite side, we will have the charity partner chosen for that race, etched into the medal.
We will pick a different brewery for each race, aiming to do
one every 6 weeks or so. There will be a new medal each race as well, and they will all be heavy duty and hand crafted with the help of Crown Awards.
-We will be donating to charities from all over the globe, with extra focus local (Upstate NY) charities
-All runners must be over the age of 21, and runners will have the option of purchasing a ticket to the “Post Race Party” at a local establishment. Beers from the races brewery will be included throughout the party (limits may apply, but will be included in the event page), and medals can be picked up during the event. Prices may vary on this depending on the brewery.
-Be on the look out for the Founders 5K athletic wear seen below. All net proceeds will also go directly to the charity.
