Winter Storm: Here’s the Good News!
Hey folks! As we brace for the winter storm and the extreme cold temperatures that are headed our way, let’s take a moment to see the positive side of what’s coming:
Slow and Steady Water Recharge
The snow and cold precipitation won’t rush into streams all at once — it’ll melt slowly over time. That means a gentle recharge of our water table and soil moisture, which helps our wells, springs, and rivers stay healthier for longer once things warm back up.
Insect Activity Slows Down
Cold temps naturally slow down insect metabolism and activity. That’s a good thing during winter — it gives beneficial species a break and helps disrupt the cycles of pests that can otherwise carry into spring.
Nature’s Rest and Reset
Winter is a time of rest for our landscapes. The cold helps break down leaf litter more evenly, supports nutrient cycling in the soil, and sets the stage for vibrant growth when spring returns
Bundle up, check on neighbors and pets, and take a moment to enjoy the beauty of a snowy icy day.
There’s so much to appreciate, even in the cold!
Let’s stay warm, stay safe, and look forward to the spring ahead!
