Troupe Civic is for the dancer with aspirations of joining a college dance team, having a career in commercial dance, or with a professional company. During the season you will have the opportunity to attend a dance convention and compete in Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical, and Hip Hop styles. Through master classes Troupe Civic offers in studio introductions to industry leaders and the world’s top choreographers and will equip you with the highest level of technical training in an environment dedicated to mind and body fitness. WELCOME BACK, DANCERS! ✨🩰

Today is officially the first day of our 2026–2027 dance season at Civic Dance Center!

Whether you’re already back in the classroom, heading back to school later this week, or still holding onto those last few days of summer, one thing is certain: it’s time to get back to DANCE! 💙

We’re so excited to welcome our dancers back for a brand-new year of training, growth, artistry, friendships and performances.

New classes. New goals. New opportunities. And a whole new season ahead. ✨

Here’s to another wonderful year at Civic — we can’t wait to see what our dancers accomplish!

Live piano accompaniment is often a hallmark of professional ballet training. Civic is proud to offer this experience to a few classes - hopefully more soon!

With live accompaniment the tempo and phrasing can be adjusted to match the dancers, giving students a more musical and responsive training experience. Every exercise becomes a collaboration between teacher, pianist, and dancer.

Just like Cinderella racing to the ball in Once Upon A Time, summer has leapt away!

Our Summer Session ends this Saturday, and we’re getting ready for another magical year at Civic Dance Center.

Registration is now open for our 2026-2027 season!

In addition to our regular technique classes in ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, hip hop and modern, this season includes:
• Active Start classes for our youngest dancers ages 2-3
• Stretch & Conditioning
• Variations classes (Junior & Senior)
• Adult classes—including Modern, Ballet, Hip Hop and Tap

There’s a place for every dancer at Civic!

Some of our Level 3 dancers had a blast taking on Shane Wuerthner | Ballet Technique Coach’s challenge! We love seeing our students work hard, have fun, and celebrate the joy of dance together.

Registration is now open for our 2026-2027 season!

Class schedules began going out to families yesterday. Most classes will remain the same as our summer schedule with a few minor adjustments.

Register in person this week during regular hours:
Monday-Thursday: 4-9pm
Friday: 4-6pm
Saturday: 9:30-2pm

Additional registration hours
Sunday, August 2: 12-4pm
Wednesday, August 5: 4-8pm
Friday, August 7: 4-8pm
Saturday, August 8: 10am-2pm
Sunday, August 9: 12-4pm

New family? Returning family? Join us for our Back to Dance Parent Meetings:

1pm or 2pm
Meet our Parent Liaison, learn about school policies, get a ballet bun tutorial, and receive an introduction to our new Parent Portal and software system.

✨What an incredible evening!✨

Our hearts are full after another wonderful Christmas in July celebrating the magic of The Nutcracker and the community that has kept this holiday tradition alive for nearly five decades.

A heartfelt thank you to Mayor Karen Goh, Conductor Stephen Penner, Artistic Director Erica Ueberroth, the dancers of Civic Dance Center and Bakersfield City Ballet, BCB Vice President and Fundraising Chair Kathryn Rider, our wonderful emcee and Parent Guild member Shellena Heber, the Nutcracker Orchestra string quartet, and our volunteers for making the evening so special.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who attended, donated, sponsored, and believes in the power of the arts. Because of your generosity, we’ve already raised $35,110 toward our $55,000 orchestra goal — 64% of the way there! 🎉

That’s an incredible place to be in July, but we’re not done yet.

Every gift, every sponsor, and every conversation helps ensure that thousands of local children and families experience the wonder of The Nutcracker accompanied by a live professional orchestra this December. If you love the arts, believe in investing in young artists, or know someone who does, now is the perfect time to help us cross the finish line.

Meet Clara, the Sugar Plum Fairy, and other beloved characters at an immersive dinner filled with performances, photo opportunities, treats, and family fun.
