***NORTHERN LIGHTS TOMORROW NIGHT***

Heads up! An incredible display of the Northern Lights is a very real possibility tomorrow night into Monday morning. A large coronal mass ejection (CME) from the Sun last night will interact with Earth's magnetic field (solar storm). That reaction you see is in the form of the Northern Lights. The intensity of this solar storm is on par with the solar storms that resulted in a terrific display last year in May and October.

The good news is skies look mostly clear for many from the Midwest all the way to the East Coast! The western Great Lakes and parts of the South will likely have to battle some smokey haze from Canadian wildfires.

Here's there breakdown:

BLUE: Viewing will be best with a camera. Make sure your long exposure setting is on as long exposure shots capture more light.

GREEN: Viewing possible with the naked eye. A vibrant glow is even possible. Look north away from light pollution. Long exposure shots will work well.

PURPLE: This is where the viewing will be the best and most vibrant. The Northern Lights will likely be visible overhead!

Birthday launch day

June 14th 1992 the schooner Tall Cotton, nowadays known as ALERT was brought out of Paul Rollins’ shop in York Maine where she was built, to be launched in the nearby Piscataqua River. That’s the sailmaker Nat Wilson in the blue shirt.
After launching she motored to East Boothbay for rigging.
