The Amherst Steele boys soccer team won its home opener on Monday against Valley Forge in convincing fashion, shutting out the Patriots 4-0.

Landon Boone started things off for the Comets with a header that found the back of the net off a brilliant corner kick from Jaxon Perez. Minutes later, Boone would hit the crossbar with a header and Matthew Hammond had two near-misses that were saved by the Valley Forge goalkeeper.

Boone would strike again just before the end of the half when he was dragged down in the box after a nifty spin move that beat the keeper. He calmly deposited the ensuing penalty kick to increase the Comets lead to two.

Jaxon Perez added a huge insurance goal with a 30 yard missile off an assist from Hammond. Teagan Debronksy put the finishing touches on the win with a one-time volley off a perfect cross from Jay Taylor.

Gavin Beckler, Gavin Ford, Evan Ferancy, Carter Boone, Chris Foisy, and Ethan Reed were strong defensively for the Comets. Aiden Haney had four saves to earn his second shutout of the season.

Amherst Steele improved to 2-1 on the season and opens up conference play at Berea-Midpark on Wednesday.

plus a $20 per team Got Sport fee for all registered teams
Communities registering 5 or more teams will receive a $25 per team discount.

If a community is going to register 5 or more teams, you MUST choose pay by check or money order as you will be unable to change the amount due to reflect the discount if you choose to pay by credit card.

FORMAT:
2 games on Saturday and 1 game on Sunday
All finals on Sunday

ROSTER SIZES:
Team rosters will be limited to 18 players for teams playing 11 v 11
Team rosters will be limited to 16 players for teams playing 9 v 9
Team rosters will be limited to 14 players for teams playing 7 v 7
