Ok so here is the entire week in a way too long post.
First off I need to bring everyone up to speed on some updates we made coming into this season.
We did a complete fuel system replacement and upgrade. We started off with replacing all the lines and fittings with PTFE lines and Aeromotive fittings, we upgraded our MagnaFuel Products Inc. fuel pump and added their regulator, we topped things off with a new Advanced Product Design carburetor. Having never had any issues with our Mgnafuel pump in the past, this new one runs great as expected. But this APD carb has been just "nasty" right out of the box. When they tell you not to touch it, they mean it. This thing didn't even need an idol adjustment and clicked right off like it had been on there for years. So a big thanks to the folks at APD for it actually doing what you say it does. Couldn't be happier with it.
Next we overhauled the cooling system. As my racing is improving I was finding myself deeper in rounds last year and realizing cooling is a big issue late in rounds. So we stepped it all up with a Ron Davis Racing Products radiator and a new Meziere Enterprises water pump to keep things cool this year.
Lastly we brought on some new safety gear instead of the box store gear we have been sporting. Pro 1 Racing & Safety Products belts, a new Simpson Racing Products fire jacket, and an updated Bell Racing helmet so everything is up to date for tech.
So as you can see we put in the work in during the off season and really felt like this was going to be my best year yet. Well after weather finally decide to cooperate we were able to get out and get some runs in. Car ran great, picked up a few, much more responsive, printing slips, cooling is a bit over kill but it's nice having the control I have over the cars temps now and I'm sure it will be nice late in rounds. Made some good laps.
Had a fuel line leaking from the cell to the pump and wanted to unload it to re-make that line. Thats when the fun started. Coasting it back out of the trailer it locked up on the ramp. Long story short, the rear end was ready to let go. 4 broken ring gear teeth and nearly every other tooth was cracked. One was wedged in-between the housing and the ring gear. Well thanks to Johnny over at Ricks Speedway Performance we were able to get a new ring and pinion installed. We decided to take this opportunity to move to a more 1/8 mile friendly gear. Johnny wasted no time getting us back at it. Thanks Johnny
The car hits nice, leaves hard, brings the front up a bit more, loving it. I can finally feel the right front breaking loose the smallest bit. Cool huh…..both are coming up a bit. Until I get some seat time and realize what I have now done. Im all over the tree. .00 one hit then 30 red the next back to .00. Not making any sense. I feel I'm hitting it well. Now its not so cool. My spot on the tree that I have been doing real good with the few times I was out so far this year, Im now -.036 red then .00 again.
Come to find out if the right front breaks the ground it's good for a -.030s red, if it doesn't break from the ground we are .00-20s. So consistent in fact that my reds were constant within a few thou all in the 30s. So we backed down launch, played with some things to try and keep it down then the air got better so we fought that all week and it took any confidence in the car I had away.
So we are talking with some folks to see if we can get it on some scales and have someone that knows what they are doing to look at the this car and get it set up for the bigger plans we have in the future if money allows😉. So until we get that done or come up with a solid plan "B" we are done for now.
Everything we have done so far has been a huge improvement to what I already thought was doing well. So once we get this figured out we should be back in the game again.
Keep an eye on us we will keep you posted.
Thanks
for following and taking the time for a way too long read.
