Aviston Completes Historic Season with County League Championship
Aviston put the finishing touches on a dream season Saturday, defeating Bartelso 2-1 to sweep the best-of-three series and claim the Clinton County League Championship. The win capped a remarkable 14-1 season in which Aviston captured the regular-season title, the playoff championship, and boasted both the league’s Pitcher of the Year and a Co-League MVP.
The championship-clinching win was powered by none other than Kyle Athmer, the league’s Pitcher of the Year, who delivered a dominant complete game on the mound. Athmer struck out 12, allowed just one run on six hits, and walked three in a performance that shut the door on Bartelso’s title hopes.
The tone was set early in the second inning when Playoff MVP Carter Truong made a spectacular full-extension diving catch in the outfield, robbing Bartelso of extra bases and igniting the home crowd.
Bartelso took a brief lead in the third inning on a passed ball, but Aviston answered in the fifth on a wild pitch to tie the game. The decisive blow came in the sixth when Brent Timmons lofted a deep sacrifice fly to drive in the go-ahead run.
Aviston’s offense was balanced, with Conner Freeze, Brock Hill (the league’s Co-MVP), Drew Potthast, and Chase Lewis each collecting a hit. Defensively, Aviston was flawless, with Potthast handling 12 defensive chances without an error.
When the final out was recorded, Aviston had completed one of the most dominant seasons in recent memory: 14-1 record, regular-season champions, playoff champions, Pitcher of the Year, and Co-League MVP honors.
A huge thank you goes out to the players, the loyal fans, the volunteers who keep Aviston Park one of the best places to play baseball, and everyone who works to keep Clinton County League baseball thriving. See you all next year!
