To make a cold-infused comfrey oil using extra virgin olive oil, follow these simple steps:
What You’ll Need
* Dried comfrey leaves (fresh leaves can introduce moisture and increase the risk of spoilage)
* Extra virgin olive oil
* Clean glass jar with lid
* Cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer
* Dark glass bottle for storage
Instructions
1. Dry the Comfrey Thoroughly
* Harvest healthy comfrey leaves.
* Allow them to dry completely until crisp. Any remaining moisture can cause mold.
2. Fill Your Jar
* Loosely fill a clean glass jar about halfway to three-quarters full with dried comfrey leaves.
3. Add Olive Oil
* Pour extra virgin olive oil over the leaves until they are completely covered by at least 1 inch of oil.
* Stir gently to release any trapped air bubbles.
4. Cap and Label
* Secure the lid and label the jar with the date and contents.
5. Infuse
* Place the jar in a warm location out of direct sunlight.
* Allow it to infuse for 4–6 weeks.
* Gently shake the jar every day or two.
6. Strain
* After 4–6 weeks, strain through cheesecloth, squeezing the leaves to extract as much oil as possible.
7. Store
* Pour the finished oil into a dark glass bottle.
* Store in a cool, dark place.
Comfrey-infused oil is traditionally used in salves, balms, massage oils, and skin preparations for minor bruises, dry skin, and sore muscles. It should generally be used externally only and not on deep wounds or broken skin without proper guidance.
