We're still in the thick of winter but warm sunny days are not all that far away. Just a reminder for those that may not know.....a second leg of the trail, aptly named the Buckville Water Trail, has been added. Much thanks to Lisa Logan and the AGFC for their efforts. One night of hammock camping in a snow storm convinced me to remove it from my things I like to do list. Keeping warm and dry was no problem. Keeping my tarp from collapsing under the weight of heavy wet snow was a constant chore (and ultimately futile). I enjoy winter camping but if snow is in the forecast I’ll stay in the cabin or RV.

The USDA Forest Service will be conducting a 2600-3000 acre prescribed burn on the north side of Lake Ouachita near the Buckville area on Saturday, March 16th. Please be aware if you are in the vicinity of Lake Ouachita, or surrounding areas that you may see/experience smoke from this burn. Prescribed burning is a management tool used to reduce the wildfire danger by reducing fuel load, reduces underbrush growth, Improves wildlife habitat, releases seeds in tree cones for regeneration, and is used for effective pest control.
