Do field sport athletes really need conditioning specific sessions, or is playing their sport and doing speed work doing enough? says it's actually imperative to prescribe conditioning, especially with collegiate soccer athletes who can spend around 20 weeks of the year off campus. If they're not in shape aerobically, then it's much harder to put in quality work when they're back with the team.

For team sports, it's crucial to manage training loads for athletes with varying fitness levels. Malorie uses a timed mile or other fixed distance tests to calculate each athlete's maximal aerobic speed, which she then uses to prescribe conditioning workouts.

What are your thoughts on aerobic conditioning for field sports? Let us know in the comments!

Virtually every coach these days has access to GPS in one form or another, but says that many coaches are using the data incorrectly. GPS can capture physical stress very well; how fast are they going, how far, how many times, etc. But it can't track mental stress at all, and that's where it takes a coach to interact with their athletes, see where everyone is at, and adapt from there. The numbers are just another tool you can use, not the end-all be-all.

How do you use GPS data to inform your training? Are some coaches too reliant on the metrics? Let us know in the comments!

speaks on the FIFA 11+ warmup, and why it might be pretty misleading. The warmup was created to minimize ACL tears in soccer players, and is frequently touted as an injury prevention routine, sometimes claiming to reduce injuries by up to 50 percent! While it has some good pieces and is a decent warmup, Malorie says it's just not what's going to minimize your risk of injury.

While soccer athletes should absolutely be getting in the weight room, says that their programming doesn't need to be as complicated as you might think. For a lot of soccer players, the weight room is seen as something that will slow you down or make you too bulky, and as such have never really been exposed to resistance training. A lot of what Malorie does with her soccer population in the gym really doesn't matter. Their training age is so low that just basic lifts to get stronger and stay healthy is plenty to supplement their natural athletic ability while still allowing them to perform in their sport.

Of course this isn't necessarily the case for all sports. For track and field, periodization, volume, and intensity are going to matter a lot more. But for soccer, it just doesn't need to be as fancy or perfect as one might think. What matters most is that they're just getting in the weight room at all.

Do you think some coaches overcomplicate strength training for low training age athletes? Let us know in the comments!

Does it really matter if someone claims to be natural and is exposed? thinks that fake natty influencers can contribute to a confusing narrative about what is and isn't possible for a natural fitness enthusiast. Although there might be some situations where it's more ethical to conceal information, when someone claims to be natural and ultimately isn't, people start to assume that you can't achieve what they have unless you're taking drugs. Alec pushes back on that notion, citing his own training, and states that too many people underestimate what a natural human is capable of.

Does it really matter if your favorite influencer is on PEDs? Are they required to reveal that information? Let us know in the comments!

speaks on his unorthodox lifts, and why so many people are quick to write them off. There's a lot of stupid stuff out there, and so the knee jerk reaction is usually negative. Let's be clear, the majority of it IS dumb. It's just novel for novelty's sake, it isn't really a good stimulus, it doesn't actually offer anything unique. However, we shouldn't put ourselves into a box so that we never try anything new. Alec's lifts may look weird at first, but he has strict criteria that he stands by in order for a lift to actually make it into his training.

Should more people experiment in the weightroom? Let us know in the comments!

You see it in every single sport; there's always someone who does something "wrong" but they're performing at an elite level. Watch the Olympics and you'll see four different ways really fast people accomplish something. But for some reason, a lot coaches like to pigeon-hole their athletes into their idea of perfect technique. pushes back on super technical models, especially in sprinting. It's ok to nudge athletes in the "right" direction, but if your system isn't flexible enough to recognize what makes someone special and allow them to strive, then it's a bad system.

How do you feel about coaching sprint technique? Let us know in the comments!

"People are more concerned with appearing fit rather than actually being fit"

is back on the to talk about optimization culture, and why it's doing more harm than good. Most people are just not putting enough training stimulus into their system to warrant the level of optimization they put into minor health benefits. For some it feels like an easy shortcut to fitness, for others it's a way to gain social status or followers without actually putting in the work. There's a whole brand of fitness influencer who doesn't even workout, they just sell you on supplements and health hacks that make a minor difference at best. So... for your physical health, longevity, mental health, bank account... just go train.

Why are so many people obsessed with hacking their way to fitness? Let us know in the comments!

Will Diet Coke give you cancer? Well, unless you're drinking ungodly amounts of it, says you're absolutely fine.

Yes, aspartame is a 2B carcinogen. Your phone, aloe vera, and pickled vegetables are also 2B carcinogens. If you wanted to die via Diet Coke, water toxicity would kill you long before the aspartame ever became an issue. So just enjoy your damn Diet Coke! In fact, it's actually been shown to have health benefits when compared to just plain water because having a sweet, no-calorie option to go to when in a deficit creates better adherence, and there is pretty much no downside.

Of course, not everyone's experience will be the same. Some people say that drinking Diet Coke increases their appetite for sweets later on. Some people experience minor adverse side effects. If that's the case, just don't drink it! There's no need to go on social media and ruin it for everyone else.

What's your favorite diet beverage? Let us know in the comments!
