We had a spooky good time at Halloween on the Green yesterday! 👻🩵 This event is a member-favorite and it’s obvious why - the costumes, the prizes, the “tricks” and “treats” on every hole. There’s nothing we love more than making memories like these as a Chapter.

We also want to extend a big big THANK YOU to all of the sponsors who donated to make this tournament possible. We truly couldn’t do what we do without the support from so many amazing businesses in the Austin community!

⭐️ OCTOBER MEMBER SPOTLIGHT ⭐️

Our Member Spotlight this month is Joanna Cossum! Joanna’s art is currently being exhibited in the Austin area throughout the month, so make sure to read below for more info on the exhibit (and to learn more about Joanna!)

“Hi! I’m Joanna Cossum. I’m the Co-Manager with Tonia Norman for the Austin East League. I moved from Australia with my husband and three daughters in the early 80’s and we all ended up becoming American citizens. I actually have US and UK dual citizenship. I am a retired teacher and retail manager, and my passions are oil painting, gardening, swimming and golf.

I have really enjoyed playing with the Austin Chapter and even though I’m not the greatest golfer they have all been very welcoming. I would like to play golf more frequently but since obtaining a rescue pup named Buddy, I find it hard to leave him for too long.

The West Pecan Coffee and B**r Café, 100 W Pecan St. Pflugerville, TX 78660, will be exhibiting a gallery wall of my oil paintings for the month of October. I started painting classes with the Art League of San Diego and went on paint at The Houston Art Academy. I have painted in acrylic, watercolor and oil. I’ve been painting in my studio in Austin for the past five years. I would love it if you could find the time to visit the cafe in October.“

The Texas heat doesn’t care if you’re having a good round, it can still bite!

When golfing in the summer months, there’s an increased risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Both are serious matters that can impact you long term. When golfing in the heat, ensure you are drinking lots of water (or better yet, electrolytes), finding shade when possible, and keeping an eye on your playing partners. If someone around you is showing signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke, take the proper steps to assist them. This goes for all outdoor activities aside from just golf as well, stay safe and cool ladies! 💚
