If you are interested in filming your swing for your own analysis or to send to a coach be sure your camera is positioned correctly and consistently.
Golf Swing Camera Setup Guide
Capturing high-quality golf swing video is essential for accurate analysis and effective instruction. For the best results, use at least two camera angles: Down-the-Line (DTL) and Face-On (FO).
1. Down-the-Line Camera Position
The Down-the-Line camera should be positioned directly behind the golfer, aligned with the target line and approximately hand-height at address. The camera lens should point through the golfer’s hands toward the target. This angle allows instructors and players to evaluate swing plane, club path, shoulder turn, posture, and body movement throughout the swing.
Setup Tips:
* Position the camera 8–12 feet behind the golfer.
* Align the camera with the player’s hand line, not directly behind the ball.
* Use a tripod to maintain a stable image.
* Record in slow motion whenever possible (120fps or higher).
2. Face-On Camera Position
The Face-On camera should be positioned perpendicular to the target line and centered on the golfer’s body. The camera lens should be approximately hand-height at address and aimed directly at the center of the golfer.
This angle provides valuable information about weight shift, hip rotation, shoulder tilt, balance, ball position, and impact alignments.
Setup Tips:
* Position the camera 10–15 feet from the golfer.
* Ensure the entire body and club remain visible throughout the swing.
* Keep the camera level and stable.
* Record in slow motion for detailed analysis.
