Fellow racer Martin Short’s son Marcus Short is in his final months of university in the UK. His dissertation is on the mental health of racing drivers. It's a multiple choice questionnaire, that needs answering as if you are 'in the moment' as you cast your minds back. It takes ten minutes, and it's crucial for his results to get a good amount of representative responses. So please can we just have a final push and get it over the line? Thank you! Our longtime friend, colleague and mentor, Ross Bentley has dug deeply into his Speed Secrets Podcast archives this week.

He has “flashed back” this Friday all the way to episode #003!

In this episode, Ross and I had a nice conversation about some of the psychological aspects of driving a race car.

If you’ve the time and inclination, give it a listen!

. In this episode, Kevin York and I talk about the impact his education and background in psychology has had on his own driving, as well as his approach to coaching drivers; we talk about whether instructing can get in the way of being a fast driver; what techniques make the most difference; and what question has he been asked that he doesn’t want to be asked ever again! In other words, we talk about the mental game of high performance and race driving – the impact the mind has on driving performance.

The early part of 2020 has been a diverse one for Kevin.

He’s provided his professional driver services for two distinctly different scenarios.

In January, a BMW M Track Day formatted event for an internal BMW dealer meeting was followed in February, by a specialized winter driving program administered to Mercedes Benz personnel at the behest of Pirelli Tires.

The balance of the year will be busy with similar programs!

Any racing enthusiast who has read Garth Stein’s best-selling novel, “The Art of Racing in the Rain” – and anybody who will see its film adaptation when it hits theaters later this week – is quick to point out the authenticity of the racing sequences depicted in the story.

For those of you that know, it’s well done.

Colleagues, teammates, people I admire and respect, all put a lot of effort into carrying the main and true message of the story, through to the movie.

For those of you that don’t know, go see the movie anyway. You’ll not regret it.

Based on the best-selling novel by Garth Stein, THE ART OF RACING IN THE RAIN is a heartfelt tale narrated by a witty and philosophical dog named Enzo (voice...

Our old IMSA teammates and longtime friends at Compass Racing (née C360R) were kind enough to have us in their thoughts today. Thanks, Karl!

: Throwback to the 2004 Grand-Am Cup finale at Fontana, and the first time Kevin F York drove with us (he’s in the middle wearing the black suit next to Team Principal Karl Thomson in the Smurf blue suit). It only seems fitting to post this now, with filming underway for “The Art of Racing in the Rain,” as York is the inspiration for the main character in the story, and later came to race with us for the 2008 season, promoting the then-just-published book at each event. 2004 was our first year in what is now IMSA, and we’re all holding up ten fingers… representing our success in achieving our goal, which was to simply finish all ten races! Fifteen years on, it’s fun to look back at pics from the early days and be reminded of the cast of interesting characters this business has enabled us to meet, many of whom (like Kevin) have become life-long friends.
