Meet 2016 Philip. 2016 Philip was that guy we all know. Your friend that talked to you about that new gym routine he started and how this time it was different. That coworker that told you about how they started running and how it was gonna be their new thing. The guy that wanted to find a way to lose some weight and get healthy and the same guy that rattled off excuses after a couple months about how they haven’t been able to be consistent when you asked how that new routine was going. The same guy whose routine ultimately became non-existent. We all know that guy. Some of us are that guy.
2016 Philip was introduced to Camp Gladiator that June/July. And I hope you all said goodbye to that guy, cuz he’s gone!
Meet 2020 Philip. 2020 Philip has stuck with CG for 4 years now and has put in over 1000 excessively sweaty hours of CG. 2020 Philip never quits! In that time, he has had setbacks in his journey that would have made pre-2016 Philip question his journey and take a different path. He has had injuries that would have made CG-less Philip give up on the journey. He has learned how to make activity non-negotiable. To stay the course, to be consistent.
The difference between 2016 Philip and 2020 Philip is just CG, simple as that. But to think that the change came from “just a workout program” would be naive. The change came from Camp Gladiator trainers that encouraged and challenged him to things he never thought possible that watched and smiled as he accomplished those things. The change came from trainers that took time to understand an injury and helped him work around it and work through it instead of making him take it on alone. The change came from an incredible community of campers that pushed him for a few more reps when he had nothing left to give. The change came from campers who looked after him as he worked through injury beside them making sure he was being carful and smart and most days he actually did listen to them even if they thought he wasn’t. The change came from experiences you don’t get in the gym or on the road or the trail going it alone.
Those things may not sound like much, but when you are struggling, they are the world! When you are just getting started, they get you to that parking lot or in front of that camera the next day! When you have nothing left to give, those things show you how much more you really have! The instill discipline, they instill consistency, they instill accountability to do the same for your battle buddies! They make you better...together!
