HATE DOESNβT GET HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE
During the first round of the Leagues Cup at Q2 Stadium, the discriminatory goalkeeper chant was heard repeatedly throughout Austin FCβs match against Club AmΓ©rica, including after warnings were displayed in the stadium. The Supporters Groups of Austin FC condemn the use of this chant unequivocally. It has no place at Q2, in our city, or in our game.
Leagues Cup has protocols specifically designed to address discriminatory chanting. When these incidents repeatedly occur, consequences are supposed to follow. They did not. Austin supporters reported the chant. Warnings were issued. The behavior continued. The response was not meaningfully escalated.
Placing messages on a video board while allowing play to continue shifts the burden onto supporters and stadium attendees instead of the officials who have the authority, and responsibility, to act.
We are calling on the Leagues Cup, Austin FC, participating club, and match officials to establish and consistently implement a response which includes meaningful consequences, including suspension or forfeiture of a match when necessary. We expect Leagues Cup and Austin FC to explain why its anti-discrimination protocol was not fully enforced and what will change before the next match.
Q2 Stadium is our home. Hate doesnβt get home-field advantage here.
