Longhorns dished out a dream performance, with both bat and ball to clinch a very important game on Saturday.
After losing the toss and having to bat on a cold, windy morning, few heads were down. Our captain Zain stepped up and decided to open the innings along with Amar. Zain put in a gutsy innings of 51, comprising of only 3 boundaries and a multitude of doubles. Shubham supported him very well at the other end, and upon Zain's dismissal took the role of the more aggressive batsman in the next partnership with Aman. Shubham played some scintillating shots from about the 20th till the 25th over, after which he was run out. Aman and Hassan batted beautifully and pushed the already monstrous total to an almost out of reach 237 in just 30 overs. Hassan ended up with a score of 32 in just 13 balls, with 3 boundaries, and a six, and his partner Aman too smashed 7 boundaries and ended up with 56 of 33 balls.
We knew we had a humongous total on board, but we can never take it easy in cricket. Nilabh and Prateek opened the bowling positively and where Nilabh kept it tight, Prateek bowled unplayable deliveries and struck from the other end. Hassan too came in as 1st change and bowled as tight as he ever could, and gave away only 20 runs in 5 overs, taking 2 wickets, and all this when the asking rate was nearly 11. Shubham and Ankit doubled up on the spin twins for the team, and while the stats don't reflect too much, they bowled well in patches especially since the asking rate was 12+ and the batsmen were simply trying to slog them each ball. Eishaan ended the proceedings for us by picking up the last 2 wickets in a spell that consisted of only 4 balls.
All in all, it was a superb performance with both bat and ball by the Longhorns. If we can keep a check on the extras (36 of them), then in the next few games we are going to be a force to reckon with.
