SMSD was founded in 1970 by Shirley McPhail, and was voted Best Dance School in 2020 by the Austin American Statesman Choice Awards. Our three main goals consist of creating an enjoyable and fun dance atmosphere, nurturing and safe educational environment, and helping students develop proper dance techniques. Our beloved Miss Trish passed away last week at the age of 89. Her kindness, passion, and love for dance touched the lives of thousands of young dancers at SMSD over the years.

For many dancers, she was their first dance teacher. She inspired countless students to follow in her footsteps and become dance teachers themselves.

While our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in imagining her dancing in heaven with Miss Shirley, doing what she loved most.

Thank you, Miss Trish for every life you helped shape. Your legacy will live on in generations of dancers. ❤️
