I’m scared to feel out of control!

This Ironman training journey is really forcing me to address some really deep struggles of mine. One of them being “the desire of feeling in control of the lack there of.”

Riding scares me, I don’t have much experience which makes me insecure and nervous. I can’t relax yet but I’m trying. I want to feel like I’m in control of my environment and that just isn’t the case right now on the bike. I think it’s rooted in a lot of deep seeded issues to be honest but we will get to those later. For now I’m trying to work on things I can control since my first triathlon is less than a month away!

Here are 3 things I’m doing to combat those worries:
1. Talk about it- talking about it allows me to invite others in and gain from their wisdom and experience. It also lets me to get out of my own head and bringing it to the light.

2. Baby steps- I started with what I was comfortable with to gain confident and I’m slowly doing more to grow!

3. Do it in community- it’s so intimidating doing things alone when you feel insecure or nervous about something, so find others to join you and DO IT IN COMMUNITY!

There is a moment In the middle of the workout when you come to terms with the fact that no one is going to come save you!

I did MURPH today in between classes at and doing it alone was rough to be honest. I’m not in CrossFit shape, I’m definitely not in RX shape, & I still choose to do Murph today unpartitioned. It was a long hour & 4 minutes.

I struggled, I was moving slow, it didn’t feel as easy as it normally does and for that I’m thankful. I got to get in my own head for a little bit and reflect on what this workout means and how often times we choose the easy way out.

Before and after the workout I prayed for Lit. Michael Murphy’s family and the legacy he leaves behind. I prayed that others would question the choice he made to sacrifice himself for others and wonder why. I pray that their time doing the workout would led them to ask why was he different & the true sacrifice of laying down our lives for others and how we can live that out in our daily lives.
