PCPS is closed on Fridays during the summer, so we'd like to take a moment today to recognize Juneteenth (June 19).

On June 19, 1865, Union forces arrived in Galveston, Texas to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation and bring an end to slavery in the state.

Juneteenth was an important milestone before slavery was finally abolished nationwide by Congress in December 1865. It became a federal holiday in 2021.
