Obviously removing rust is a critical component of restoration. You can see the difference here, as the top tube has been treated and the down tube has not. It’s tedious work, but it makes all the difference. After I buff this and apply new decals, the chrome will look factory fresh. PRO TIP: Use ArmorAll to get your brake cables looking shiny again.

A buddy of mine brought one of my bikes to the SCCA Runoffs in Wisconsin last weekend to show it off. BMX enthusiasts tend to be car lovers, and I was really excited to hear the car guys loved the bike as well. The bike even received a short spotlight in the recap video (2:00 mark)! It was a great feeling seeing the GT Performer in the garage with those amazing cars. Thanks to Joey Smith for making it happen!

The Runoffs, as you know, is my favorite time of year, and this last week was exactly that, till it wasn't. But still, I had 30-some engines ...

Far and away my favorite bike I’ve done this year, this 1978 Mongoose Motomag is a semi-restoration. New paint, decals, grips, and tires were required. But I wanted to keep as many vintage parts as possible, including the Tange forks, Sugino Super Maxy cranks, Viscount seat, Diacompe brake, and Shimano pedals. I absolutely love this one.
