What better tarot card to represent a roller derby bout, or even a single jam, than the Wheel of Fortune? 🛼💥💫

Constantly in motion, the Wheel of Fortune represents the one true constant: change. It mirrors our trajectory, round and round the track.

Zebras and flamingos — our skating and non-skating officials — preside over the ever-spinning derby wheel, standing in for the fixed signs (Leo, Ta**us, Scorpio, Aquarius) of the traditional imagery. In place of the snake and Anubis rising and falling around the wheel, we have the quick, nimble jammer hare against the strong, steady blocker turtles — trading places as they climb and tumble.

One moment the jammer has broken through, riding high atop the wheel. Moments later, she's trapped behind the wall as the blockers take their turn on top — while the head ref, sphinx-like, watches over it all from above the fray.
