Bulldogs Battle After Tough Start at Plattsmouth

The Auburn Bulldogs varsity softball team traveled to Plattsmouth this evening for a single game against the Blue Devils, and while the final result wasn’t what we wanted, there were plenty of positives to take away from the night.

The Bulldogs got on the board first, putting a run across in the top of the first inning. Unfortunately, Plattsmouth answered in a big way in the bottom half of the inning, putting up seven runs, including a three-run home run. A few costly defensive mistakes made the inning even more difficult for Auburn.

But rather than allowing one tough inning to define the game, the Bulldogs did something we’ve been challenging them to do all season—they reset, recharge, and get back to work.

After the first inning, Auburn settled in and played much better softball. The defense held Plattsmouth scoreless until the fifth inning, giving the Bulldogs opportunities to battle their way back into the game. Auburn continued to compete and eventually added two more runs in the sixth inning, extending the game and keeping the pressure on.

Plattsmouth ultimately closed things out with an 8-3 victory.

As disappointing as the loss was, it was incredibly encouraging to watch the Bulldogs continue to fight and work toward playing a complete game. There was still some rough play throughout the night, but those mistakes are part of the learning process.

If this group continues to respond the way they did tonight—by battling back, competing, and refusing to let one bad inning become five bad innings—we believe they will be in a great position by the end of the season to compete in postseason play.

We go right back to work tomorrow morning.

Our next games are Thursday at Wilber:

🥎 JV – 5:00 PM
🥎 Varsity – approximately 6:30 PM

Bulldogs Finish Runner-Up at Syracuse Tournament

The Auburn Bulldogs wrapped up a busy and productive week of softball today at the annual Syracuse Tournament, competing in three games and battling their way to a 2nd-place finish.

The Bulldogs opened the day against Plattsmouth and found themselves in a hard-fought battle that required some extra innings. Auburn continued to fight until the very end, eventually walking it off in the bottom of the 9th inning on a sacrifice fly to secure the victory and advance.

The Bulldogs then faced Yutan in another competitive game. Auburn put together a complete performance, playing solid defense and coming through with timely hits when they needed them. The girls battled through the game and earned a 4-2 victory, giving Yutan their first loss of the season and punching their ticket to the championship game.

In the championship, Auburn faced Wahoo and found themselves in an early hole, trailing 5-0. Our ladies refused to go quietly, however, finding some offensive momentum with a few hits and a run in the 4th inning. Unfortunately, an impressive double play by Wahoo quickly shut down the rally and halted the Bulldogs’ momentum. Auburn continued to battle, but ultimately came up short in the championship game.

The Bulldogs finished 2nd in the tournament, but the final placement doesn’t tell the entire story of what this group accomplished today.

Throughout the tournament, numerous girls were placed into high-pressure situations and excelled. We continue to see players step into opportunities, gain confidence, and show the growth that comes from competing together. The chemistry, confidence, and competitiveness of this team continue to develop with every practice and into every game.

It has been an incredibly productive week for the Bulldogs. There have been plenty of challenges, plenty of learning opportunities, and—most importantly—a whole lot of growth.

Now it’s time to take a day to rest, recover, and enjoy some time away from the field before we get back to work on Monday.

The next week is already waiting for us!

Upcoming Games

JV – 5:00 PM (3 innings)

🥎 Thursday @ Wilber

We are proud of this group and excited to keep building. The season is young, and there is still a lot of softball ahead!

Bulldogs Sweep Cass, Carry Momentum Into the Weekend

The Auburn Bulldogs headed to Cass this evening for a JV/Varsity showdown with the Wildcats, and both Bulldog squads came away with victories to complete the sweep!

The JV Bulldogs came out firing in their season opener, putting runs on the board early and often. Auburn’s offense continued to apply pressure throughout the game, eventually sealing an impressive 11-1 victory.

Coaches were excited to see the JV girls get their first opportunity to put all of the work they’ve been doing in practice into action. For many of these players, tonight was their first taste of meaningful game action, and it was great to watch them compete, gain confidence, and take advantage of their opportunities.

The Varsity Bulldogs followed with a strong start of their own. The bats were on fire early, allowing Auburn to build an early lead. While the offense eventually cooled off, the defense remained solid throughout the game and gave the Bulldogs a chance to maintain control.

Cass continued to battle and worked their way back into the game, but the Bulldogs stayed composed and held on to a 5-4 victory in a tight finish.

It was a solid performance by both squads and a great way to send the Bulldogs into the weekend with a little momentum. More importantly, we continue to see girls step up, compete, and make the most of the opportunities in front of them.

Tomorrow, we will go back to work and prepare for the annual Syracuse Tournament on Saturday!

Auburn will open tournament play at 9:00 AM against Plattsmouth (Field C).

Bulldogs Split Triangular, Continue to Show Growth

The Auburn Bulldogs were back on the field this evening for a triangular, and the girls came away with a split as they continue to gain valuable experience and build toward the season ahead.

The Bulldogs opened the evening against Falls City, and it was great to see the Auburn bats begin to come to life. The girls were able to put runs on the board and establish some early momentum. After allowing Falls City to battle their way back into the game, Auburn responded late, putting the hammer down when it mattered most to seal the victory.

In the second game, the Bulldogs faced Wilber, who came out hot offensively and took advantage of some uncharacteristically sloppy play from Auburn defensively. Despite the early deficit, our girls continued to battle, scrape together opportunities, and put a few runs on the board late. Unfortunately, the deficit was too much to overcome, and Auburn came up short.

While splitting the triangular wasn’t necessarily the result we were looking for, we continue to see growth, competition, and opportunities being taken advantage of. Girls throughout the roster continue to step into new roles and make the most of their opportunities when they arise.

This group continues to show that they are willing to battle, learn, and keep moving forward together, and we will go back to work tomorrow as we prepare for Cass (at Murray) on Thursday.

The JV Bulldogs will make their season debut at 5:00 PM, with Varsity following at approximately 6:30 PM.

The season is just getting started, and there is still plenty of work to do—but there are also plenty of reasons to be excited about this group!

Bulldogs Battle Through Three Competitive Games in Aurora:

After another week of practice in the books, the Auburn Bulldogs spent the afternoon and evening on the softball field in Aurora, taking on three competitive opponents in a busy night of softball.

The Bulldogs opened the day at 3:00 against Aurora, followed by Malcom at 5:00 and Crete at 7:00. While Auburn unfortunately fell short in all three games, the Bulldogs showed that they are more than capable of competing with each of these teams.

One of the biggest positives from the day was our defense. From young players getting their first opportunities to veterans stepping into leadership roles, we saw girls step up and make plays when their team needed them. Against all three opponents, the Bulldogs held their own defensively and continued to show improvement as the day went on.

Going 0-3 isn’t necessarily the result we wanted, but there was plenty to be encouraged about. These girls are continuing to compete for positions, learn how to play alongside one another, and—most importantly—support their teammates. That chemistry doesn’t happen overnight, and days like today are a big part of building it.

We are walking away from Aurora with a lot of camaraderie built, a lot of good things to work on, and a whole lot of optimism.

This team is still learning who they are, and we are excited to watch these girls continue to develop, compete, encourage one another, and grow together.

The record may say 0-3 tonight, but we see something much bigger taking shape.

This looks to be the beginning of a very strong season for the Auburn Bulldogs, and we can’t wait to see where this group goes!

Auburn Bulldogs Softball Opens Season with Jamboree Against Ralston:

The Auburn Bulldogs Softball team officially got a taste of game action this evening as they took on the Ralston Rams in a jamboree scrimmage (After only 4 days of practice as a unified team).

The Bulldogs came out a little slow, but the girls showed their ability to battle back and find their stride. In the third inning, Auburn put together a strong offensive inning, taking advantage of extra bases, scoring four runs and putting themselves right back into the game.

The scrimmage ultimately ended with Ralston walking it off, but the final result was only a small part of what tonight was about. More importantly, several girls had the opportunity to step into positions and roles they have been competing for throughout this first week of the season. Those opportunities are valuable as the team continues to learn more about their identity and what each player can bring to the field.

“We hope the girls walk away from tonight seeing it as a learning opportunity—an opportunity to identify areas where we can improve, build confidence, and continue growing together.” Stated Coach Sheets in a postgame interview.

Coach Sheets also stated “Most importantly, we want to continue developing a team full of great teammates. Success in softball isn’t just about what happens between the lines. It is about encouraging one another, competing for one another, responding to adversity, and collectively working toward becoming the most competitive and successful team we can be. And today was a showcase for those showing they want to compete for spots in practice and in every opportunity they get. I can see is being an evolving team for a lot of the season and we have A LOT of girls who can earn places on the field.”

The Bulldog staff is incredibly excited about the season ahead and everything this group has the potential to accomplish. They stated that the work has only just begun, and they are looking forward to the battles that are still to come!

Next Friday, the Bulldogs head to Aurora for three competitive games as they officially kick of their season.

Next Friday’s Schedule in Aurora:
3PM - vs. Aurora
5PM - vs. Malcolm
7PM - vs. Crete

🥎 THE EXCITEMENT IS BUILDING! 🥎

What an incredible week it has been for our softball girls! We have worked through two-a-day practices, some challenging workouts, and some relatively excessive heat —and through it all, we have seen some amazing effort and incredible attitudes.

We continue to see a group of girls who are motivated, competitive, and eager to do something special this season.

From summer weights and summer softball seasons to workouts, practices, and now building chemistry as a High School team, these girls have put in a tremendous amount of work. It is going to be so much fun watching them come together and compete throughout this season!

There are a lot of girls eager to fight for positions, and that competition is bringing out the best in everyone. Even more exciting, we are seeing a very positive culture developing—one built around a “TEAM FIRST” mentality.

Tomorrow, we head to Ralston for our jamboree, and we couldn’t be more excited to finally see these ladies compete in a game-like setting! It will be a great opportunity to see where we are, determine next steps, and get ready for our opener next Friday.

Next Friday, we officially kick off our season in Aurora!

The work has been put in.
The chemistry is building.
The competition is fierce.
And the excitement is REAL!

Our girls are ready to hit the dirt. Let’s have some fun!

🥎 What an incredible week at our Auburn High School & Youth Softball Camp! 🥎

We had the opportunity to spend the week with an amazing group of talented young ladies who came ready to learn, work hard, and have fun. It was so rewarding to watch them develop their skills while learning from our Auburn High School softball players and coaches.

The enthusiasm, effort, and positive attitudes these girls brought each day made for a fantastic camp. We are excited to continue watching each of them grow as players, build confidence, and become an even bigger part of our softball family in the years to come.

A huge thank you to all of the families for investing your time, supporting your daughters, and allowing them to be part of such a great week. Your commitment plays a huge role in their success.

The future of Auburn softball is looking incredibly bright, and we can’t wait to see what’s ahead.🥎
