SATURDAY 22 JUNE 2019
K-WAY VOB TRAIL RUNNING GROUPS (all runners welcome regardless of club or no club)
A: LONGER DISTANCE GROUP
DUE TO THE POTENTIALLY EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS WE ARE POSTPONING THE INDIA-VENSTER ROUTE FOR TWO WEEKS.
Potentially strong wind, heavy rain, poor visibility and icy conditions will make the India-Venster ascent at best unpleasant and at worst very dangerous. The run across the top to Maclears Beacon will also be exposed to an icy north-wester. Again, not much fun.
THE NEW ROUTE FOR TOMORROW
We are going “flooded forest river and waterfall touring”. Judy, Tarryn and Phillip are you in? From Newlands Forest car park (the more sheltered side of the mountain) we will make our way up to contour path at the turnstile below the King’s Blockhouse. From there we will follow the contour path, carefully navigating the slippery boardwalks on fresh legs, towards Constantia Nek, wading through cold streams and waterfalls all the way. Near the Nek we will drop down onto the lower paths and jeep tracks and make our way through Cecilia Forest and Kirstenbosch to Newlands Forest again
Run Leader
Tim Bellairs 0823210299 / [email protected]
Start
07h30 at Newlands Forest car park.
Distance
About 20km
Time
About 3.5 to 4 hours
Route
As above but with potential shortcuts all along the way.
Pace
Chilled (in more ways than one) Slow Medium / TT Packers pace / CRAG Shufflers pace. This is not intended to be a fast run but speedsters can form their own group if they want. Nor is this a hike / slow group
Important Notes
All runners welcome i.e. not just for K-Way VOB members.
Make sure you have energy snacks for the full time out there. I don’t think water will be a problem tomorrow.
It’s going to be cold and wet. Dress warmly. Proper, weather-appropriate trail running gear compulsory, including: hydration pack, waterproof jacket, fully charged cell phone, cap (or something to keep your head warm), whistle.
Please note that K-Way VOB club rules do not permit dogs on our runs.
B. TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS (K-WAY VOB MEDIUM DISTANCE GROUP)
SIGNAL HILL / LIONS HEAD LOOP
This week's sortie will be a gentle version of the Signal Hill/Lion's Head circuit.
RV at the Kloof Nek car park, ready to run at 7:30am. Distance will be about 9-10kms for the medium group, extended for the faster group by an out and back along the Pipe Track.
Terrain is single track most of the way with some undulating hills.
Groups
This is a pack run with regular regroups, we will split into speed groups with leaders and sweeps on the morning.
Dogs
Please note that K-Way VOB club rules do not permit dogs on our runs.
What to bring
Water, whistle, warm/windproof top depending on weather, space blanket, ICE ID - either on your phone, bracelet/tag, card in your backpack.
Important: Please remember to look behind you at every turn in the route to make sure the people behind you see which way you are going.
Leaders of each group will ensure that no-one is left behind. Please keep the groups together and ensure that no-one is left on their own.
See you all there!
