when I dont need another Yamaha project, I sometimes cant help myself. I doubt I will assemble this, even though every part, with the exception of the plastic side number plates came in the package I bought. The bike, except for the dismantled engine was fully assembled, but the vehicle I took, and the distance I had to drive meant I took my small imported SUV, so I took it apart, when I got there...1983 yz250. I really only need the forks, front brake plate, upper triple clamp, but I am really good at recognizing value when I see it. The tank is mint, the handlebars are straight, I inspected the torn apart engine, radiators, frame, seat, etc. Except for the long drive today, monday, labor day weekend, and the hi cost of fuel in my state ($5.67 p/gal, 89 octane) the 240 miles I drove for the yz100 engine and this 83 250 wasnt all that bad...same seller had both, but when I bought the engine on saturday, I didnt have tools or money with me...and didnt know about the complete yz for sale. Today, seller tried hard...to sell me another 79 yz400 he had, which is a bargain, but I already own 2 of them, and havent touched either one since purchasing each separately other than parts purchases toward restorations...

Sometimes ressurecting an old bike isnt who can accumulate the most nos parts. Its about finding a diamond in the rough. Its about cleaning, scrubbing, filing, sandblasting, v***r blasting, etc, etc. Other times its elbow grease, super fine steel wool, and lacquer thinner....case in point. I bought this off ebay a week ago, and spent an hour cleaning and scrubbing...I needed this part for a build, and didnt want to trouble Greg in Australia to ship me one of his fine 2 piece examples...scrub a dub time.

not much parts work in the shop right now because I have been working on the building itself. Venting the metal roof ridge full length, cleaning out the over filled rafter storage area, and honestly selling off my leftover shelving and storage options. Freeing up space, making the shop more comfortable in the summer, should make for more production this fall and winter. Currently thinking about a hinged roof vent for the ridgeline, I can easily open and close in 3, 8ft sections, thats hinged on one side, and latches on the other. I already installed 2 large gable vents and a large t/stat operated vent fan in one of the gables with shutters. Plus 3 rafter fans to move air around...So far, so good, happy with the results. And I moved a bike into the shop from long term storage that just needs a bit more work to be completed. Its been collecting dust far too long, and is probably 95% finished.

Working in the shop on sub assy work for future builds...I keep saying that over and over. The BAD thing is that some of my projects are loosing value because they just sit here waiting for their turn to get assembled, while I have most of the work completed. But, I keep grinding away. Today I am swapping counter shaft sprockets, and ignition covers from engine to engine, installing stators and flywheels, and like all of the stuff I do, I keep a log of whats in what, and rate them from best to worst. Also setting ignition timing on each engine, and a couple engines will get the cylinder heads lightly v***r blasted, as they were simply set in place. At some point I purchased the head gaskets I needed, so I will be able to mark all of these as FINISHED, and move them to my rented storage unit a few miles away today. I have a few more engines, than I do projects, so at some point I will sell 2 or 3 of these 1980 yz250 engines. 6 speed, P6 bore. Shipping them is so difficult for me, I dont try hard to sell complete engines. Prefer local pick up in Seattle...I also have several 78-79 yz125 fully rebuilt engines I dont need...send a pm if interested.

Sometimes I have leftovers from my builds, or parts that may be too nice for a really nice race bike. Today, I present this NOS 3R4, clutch side cover for sale. Correct for 80-81 yz250/465, but fits 82-90 yz490 also. If your 490 is a mid 80's on, you would need to change the plastic sleeve on the kick shaft for the longer earlier version, which I also sell as aftermarket, made in America, along with the kick start shaft washer. Cover is $375 + USPS shipping from Seattle, if paid Paypal as friends or family, OR add 3.5% if Paypal as goods or services due to the fees. Its NOS, its NICE. I could include a washer for $11, and or a sleeve for $16 also. Cover is SOLD-SOLD-SOLD....literally within minutes of posting this. Money will go to fund some Buchannon spoke sets for shop projects. Thanks for following and watching.

Growing up, I never remember hearing about a class I should of taken that teaches me how to deal with the loss of a friend. It never gets easier, seems like it gets harder and harder. This morning I got a phone call from a friends wife, and she told me he passed away, and I just talked to him last week. I hate news like this, make sure you keep in touch with your friends, you just never know when it might be the last conversation. Now, go work on your motorcycle, because doing stuff we love makes the pain of loosing someone a little easier...
