Captain Dale Megie has been fishing the great lakes for 50 years with much of that time guiding clients hammering walleye on the Detroit River, Lake Erie, Lake St Clair, and Saginaw Bay. Captain Dale has also spent many days fishing for salmon on Lake Huron. His tournament experience includes multiple top ten finishes and a 2nd place finish in the Alpena Brown Trout Super Tournament. Captain Dale

brings this wealth of knowledge and experience to you through Reel Rumors Sport Fishing Charters. You'll fish aboard a new 2016 Kingfisher 2425 Hardtop Mid Coastal made in British Columbia. It features a super strong aluminum fully welded hull complete with an enclosed (when needed) cabin with comfortable seating and an enclosed toilet. The deep hull and wide beam make for a comfortable day on the bay. You'll meet at the Reel Rumors Sport Fishing Charters slip in our home port in the Au Gres River. The trip down the river then out on the bay provides a breath taking view as the sun rises over the water. The return trip will feature lots of pictures, and measuring and weighing "the big ones," Upon request, we will clean and package your fish for the trip home home. Saginaw Bay is an outstanding walleye fishery, and there are plenty of perch that occasionally end up on a line and in the live well. The DNR recently increased the walleye limit to 8 fish, allowing more fishing and more fast action. Our standard charter is a six hour trip with a minimum $450 for two people, and only $50 for each additional person up to 5. Extended charters are available at the captain's discretion. Call to book your trip soon! At Reel Rumors Sport Fishing Charters you'll get more than a fish story!!!

Reel Rumors 2025 Final Fishing Report 8/3/2025 out of Au Gres

Hard to believe this season is ending, but this is the last week of Charters for 2025 and our last fishing report. It’s been a mixed bag of catches since the two major windstorms which scattered the walleye almost overnight. It’s not a limit everyday though many days are plentiful including a four-man 32 fish limit this morning by 11:30. The fish in some areas are just scattered while other areas the fish are in small pockets making them hard to stay on. Water depths ranged from 12 to 34 feet depending on the day and the wind direction. Most fish were taken on or near the bottom with some suspension noted early in the day. Trolling speeds of 1.5 in deep water and 1.6 to 1.7 in skinny water. Best baits: “Yellow Belly’s” and our two prototype releases for 2026, “Wicked” and “JJ”. The bite has been extremely light so keep your hooks sharp and your drags light. We have fished exclusively in the inner bay and never went north of the Islands with good results. We appreciate all the support and feedback from everyone, “Thank You”.

Reel Rumors Fishing Report out of Au Gres 7/17/2025

The fishing remains fantastic over the last four trips with heavy coolers full of walleye. The caliber of fish we are boxing every day is well above average with lots of walleye into the 25-inch class. Although most fish were taken on or near the bottom, we have been successful in pulling good numbers of very nice walleye up to ten feet off the bottom. Theres plenty of good fishing left if you’re willing to put in the time and cover some ground as the walleye are moving, on a daily basis in the northern part of the bay. Over last three trips we have been fishing our two prototypes exclusively with the pics showing how effective both “JJ” and “Wicked” have been producing (available spring 2026). 1.5 to 1.6 with two to three-ounce bottom bouncers depending on the water depths ranging from ten to 28 feet depending on the day. The season is starting to wind down with our last charter at the end of the first full week of August.

Reel Rumors Fishing Report out of Au Gres 7/3/2025

Wow, that’s what the week has been like “absolutely incredible”. It’s like walleye mania week out of Au Gres. Finally, a week of fishable weather and the fish have set up in large numbers for what should be a great July fishing month. We have fished depths ranging from 10 feet to 34 feet and everything in between over the last week with solid results and quick limits. This morning, we managed a three-person 24 fish limit by 9:30 (two hours of fishing). It was fast and furious action, making it impossible to keep lines in the water. We had as many as five on at a time. The surface water temp is now in the upper 70’s and the walleye have put on their feed bag. They are smashing the crystal harnesses with as good of a bite as I can remember. We are running our harnesses with 3-ounce bottom bouncers in deeper waters 20 feet and up. Under twenty feet we are running 2-ounce bottom bouncers. 1.5 to 1.6 is our trolling speed, with fish scattered in the water columns. We are seeing suspended eyes up to 10 feet off the bottom at times in the deeper water. Best harnesses: Roxy, Yellow Belly, Yellow Belly Bread and our two prototypes “Wicked” and “JJ” are killing it. Just to be clear Frank’s doesn’t carry any of the prototypes (if they’re not on the website there are not at Frank’s Great Outdoors). Thank you to all the angler crews for making my job not a job but pure passion, you all “ROCK”!!!

Reel Rumors Fishing Report 6-24-2025 out of Au Gres

Another 3 days of hard blows and small craft advisories. My concerns were confirmed as we scanned the areas close to the port of Au Gres only to find that most of the walleye have relocated. Several moves, including a long run, turned the morning from desperation to fishing chaos. The action was so good we put some rods up the hardtop as they were nothing but in the way. We boated 40 walleyes maxing out a five-man limit within 3 hours of fishing with non-stop action (that’s a fish every 4 ½ minutes). Great job crew, you guys did awesome “full team effort”. We increased our speed to 1.5 with the surface temp exceeding 70 degrees. Roxy, Yellow Belly and Wicked were the hot harnesses pulled behind three-ounce bottom bouncers. Prior to the last three blow days the fish appeared to be everywhere, but that was not the case today.

Reel Rumors Fishing Report 6-18-2025 out of Au Gres

The fishing remains strong out of Au Gres. We have not fished past 11 the last three trips with quick limits coming easy. I should say when we can fish as the wind continues to be relentless handcuffing us to the dock more than is normal for June. The walleye are plentiful with no set location or depth however 30 to 34 feet has been the most productive over the last few weeks. Trolling speeds of 1.4 or slower have been best even with the surface temps into the mid 60’s. Crystal harnesses targeting the bottom three feet behind three-ounce bouncers has been the daily program. We are moving around every day as we don’t set lines before we grid/graph searching our target areas. The “Yellow Belly’s” continue to produce well along with “Roxy” producing its share of eye’s. We have a new yellow belly prototype in the works that looks like a certain upcoming release for production, we call it “Wicked” because it is wicked. I had some fantastic repeat groups over the last several weeks that make for memorable trips. I’ve done a much better job at delegating, getting anglers more involved with running boards, netting and the entire program that we run on the Reel Rumors boat. In fact, I have several repeat crews that I rarely touch a rod, as long as they can handle the program, it’s a better outing for everybody.

Reel Rumors Fishing Report 6-12-2025 out of Au Gres

There hasn't been nothing worth posting as we have been off the water for more than a week due to mechanical issues. The Kingfisher’s main outboard (Evinrude E-TEC G2) is toast. We are now back on the water with a New Mercury 200 PRO XS. Returning to where we left off over a week ago was certainly worth the run. Our repeat group put the smack down on the walleyes this morning. The action was hot and cold with scattered pockets of fish but when we were in them it was crazy good fishing (Fire Drills). It was a much-needed outing with a great bunch of anglers in perfect conditions. Our program remains the same “Reel Rumors Crystal Harnesses” trolled slowly (1.2 to 1.3) behind three-ounce bottom bouncers on or near the bottom in 30 to 34 feet of water. Best baits: “Yellow Belly’s”, “Roxy” and some new prototypes that are crushing the eyes. Feels great to be back on the water!!!

Reel Rumors Fishing Report 5-29-2025 out of Au Gres

It was walleye mania on the Reel Rumors Boat today. Plan A was to go where we were left off on Tuesday, but halfway into our run we sat down on a quarter mile of hooks that HDS Lowrance indicated. Spinning around we set a pass back through the target area, and it was game on. The first hour we struggled to keep three or four rods in the water. We never exceeded six rods and even that was short lived. Our repeat crew (two couples from Tawas) kept very busy doing an awesome job during the chaos of non-stop action. Shortly before 11:30 we boxed our four-crew limit of 32 walleye and one bonus perch. Our program today “slow” 1.2 to 1.3 pulling Reel Rumors crystal harnesses in 30 to 32 feet of water on or near the bottom behind 3-ounce bottom bouncers. The surface temp was 58 with about 5-foot visibility, Yellow Belly’s continuing to do most of the damage with Mud Streak also taking its share of eyes.

Reel Rumors Fishing Report 5-26-2025 out of Au Gres

The walleye fishing is on fire out of Au Gres. Finally, after 8 days of non-stop winds a much-needed break in the weather. I was concerned the fish would be scattered and difficult to locate, but that would not be the case this morning. The biggest challenge we encountered was keeping rods in the water as it was non-stop action filling a three-man limit by 10:30. The bite was light as we lost more fish than we boxed at the beginning. Backing off the drag once the board was off quickly minimized the issue. Our program today “Reel Rumors crystal harnesses” behind 3 oz bottom bouncers trolled SLOW, (1.2 to 1.3) in 30 to 34 feet of water. All fish were taken on or near the bottom. Our best baits today “Yellow Belly Bread”, “Gun Powder” along with our stand-alone blade “Mud Streak” (with a motor oil finish and lime green tip) really stood out today. The forecast has moderate Northeast winds for the next two days, it will be challenging though it looks fishable with the end of the week looking very promising.

Reel Rumors Fishing Report 5-15-2025 out of Au Gres

The crawler bite is on out of Au Gres. Although there are not the normal schools we are accustomed to in early May, there are scattered pockets making for some great fishing if your willing to put in the effort. Today was my annual birthday fish with Trish “my bride and soul mate” that supports me and makes what I do possible. We had to make several moves but once we had them figured out it was game on with the bites coming in small flurries as we punched out our two-person limit of walleye with a couple dandy yellow belly bonus perch. Slow and deep was the ticket with a speed of 1.2 to 1.3 (anything over 1.3 killed the bite) in 30 to 34 feet of water with all fish taken flat on the bottom. The two best harnesses today: “Roxy” and the new release for 25 the “Yellow Belly Bread” did most of the damage in the cloudy water with about five feet of visibility. The fishing should get better as we move into the last two weeks of May. I will try and post weekly and prior to the weekends as best I can. It's challenging this time of year keeping up with Frank's orders on the custom tackle and full time charters.
