IT’S LONG RUN DAY!

Yes, dogs can run distance, and so can you! But 11 miles isn’t where you start. It’s where consistent, appropriate training can take you.

Here are a few ways to set your dog up for success:

Build distance gradually. Just like humans, dogs need time to develop the strength and endurance for longer efforts.

Train for time on feet. Not every run needs to be fast. Easy miles are an important part of building endurance.

Consider the conditions. Temperature, humidity, terrain and elevation can dramatically change the demands of a run.

Have a hydration plan. Know your individual dog and practice your hydration strategy during training.

Fuel appropriately. Longer efforts may require a different nutrition strategy than your everyday 5K.

Watch your dog. Know your dog’s normal behavior and be willing to shorten or stop a run.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Long-distance running is not appropriate for every dog. Age, physical maturity, breed/build, health, conditioning, weather and individual tolerance all matter. Dogs should be fully developed and appropriately conditioned before progressing to sustained distance running. Increase mileage gradually, avoid running in unsafe heat or conditions, and never push a dog showing signs of fatigue, overheating, pain, gait changes or distress. When in doubt about whether distance running is appropriate for your dog, talk with your veterinarian or a qualified canine sports professional.

STEEPLECHASE STAMPEDE IS NOVEMBER 8TH!

Round up your dog and hit the trail! Come join us November 8th at the Georgia International Horse Park for our in-person Canicross race! Held at the prestigious Georgia International Horse Park, site of the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games.

Choose your distance:

Sprint — 1.25 Miles
5K Canicross
10K Canicross — 2 Laps
TRI-HOUND CROWN — Complete All Three!

The 5K and 10K courses are classified as technical trail running races. Participants should be prepared for uneven terrain, elevation changes, roots, rocks, and narrow paths. There will be one water/aid station on the course.

TAKE ON THE TRI-HOUND CROWN!

Harness up, and complete all three distances to earn the Tri-Hound Crown! This is a true dog-and-human team challenge, so you and your canine partner will take on the Sprint, 5K, and 10K together.

North American Canicross' Steeplechase Stampede is on Sunday November 8, 2026 at the GA International Horse Park. It includes the following events: Canicross 10k Race, Canicross 5k Race, 2 Dog Canicross Sprint, and the Tri-Hound Crown Challenge featuring all 3 distances!
