A full day on Asante, start to finish, in 18 seconds. Fruit plate, sails up, beanbags on the bow, a jump off the side, and what the light did on the way home.

Fruit goes first, because nobody sails well on an empty stomach and I have no data to the contrary.

Full day is $800 for 2, $100 for each additional guest, $1,200 for 6. Charcuterie, painkillers, rum punches, full bar and snorkel gear are all in. Lunch is separate, at a floating or beachside spot only the boat can reach.

She's a 1989 Brewer 44. Sloop rig, dark blue hull, white sails, and a shape they stopped drawing a long time ago.

She was built to cross oceans, which makes a day between St. John and the cays an easy afternoon for her. Every line runs where it belongs, the sails go up on every trip, and she still points like she means it.

Somebody on another boat took this and sent it to me, which is the best kind of mail.

They come on you fast, they leave you fast.

Captain Ron had it right. A squall line down here shows up in 30 seconds, dumps on everybody, and then hands you this.

I don't sail in unsafe conditions no matter what the booking is worth. Everything else, we go.

A family of six is my favorite booking. Everybody on one boat, nobody else on it, and no negotiating over the good seat.

Six is the whole boat, so the day runs on your schedule and nobody else's. The only real argument is who gets the hammock chair first.

People ask what's included, so here's the whole list, no asterisks.

In: morning fruit plate, afternoon charcuterie, signature painkillers and rum punches, full bar plus non-alcoholic, snorkel gear, fuel.

Out: lunch, because you'll want to tie up somewhere only a boat can reach and order for yourself. Towels, because laundry on a boat is logistically infuriating. Crew tips, which I ask for playfully and mean sincerely.
