After about 6 days of hunting I was able to put my tag on a spring Michigan Gobbler. I drove into a piece of public land in Montmorency County and got out to listen. After several minutes i heard a Gobble SE of me. While getting my gear together it Gobbled again sounded further away. By the time i got to that location it was for sure going away. I called and got a response and start looking for my setup. I just got sat down and he gobbled again and was coming. I gave him several loud clucks and cut me off. Watching the direction of the Gobbles there he was and coming fast and by himself. He got to about thirty yards and stop behind a down limb and turned hard right. Not knowing if he was just going around the limb or leaving the scene. Right when he got clear I touch one off, and very little flop. As years go by you learn too really value every spring in the Turkey Woods.

What a great opportunity to spend time with your grandson, and Deer hunting too. Ira flew into Cherry Capital airport on opening evening, so his hunt started on the second day of season. Well after two days of hunting he had seen does and small three pointer. But on the afternoon of the fourth day thing came together. As luck would have it two does appeared running but stopped in his shooting lane. They looked back from direction the had just came and this nice buck just walk right in without a care in the world. As hunters we dream of a Buck with his mind on the Girls. Ira had the 270 Re*****on on the sticks and placed a great shot. When I heard the shot I just started grinning, then I got a call got one Pops. What a Deer season I will never forget.

Well as my Michigan turkey season closes i feel very fortunate to have been able to harvest a nice bird. As many of you may know Northern Michigan was hit with the worst ice storm on record. Our woods are destroyed beyond belief, and with down tress walking is almost impossible in some area. Just finding a bird is hard but navigating the woods adds another level to the hunt. After about hunting five days i finally was hearing bird's sound off maybe two, but as luck would have it, they were on private property. Well i called my friend Jim and we devised a plan. Well, the next morning we were on public land west of the private land. Sure, enough we heard two gobblers one was close but the other quite far off. Well, we got between where the bird was roosted and the private. Gobbling on the roost well but slowed down on the ground. Once I was sure he was answering me i went quiet. In about ten minutes he Gobbled about fifty yards in front of me. I didn't see him, but he thought i was there. I only purred and he appeared about forty yards in front of me walking and looking for this hen. Well, my 2025 season came to an end.

With the 2025 season about to end it sure was fun to spend time in the field with friends. I was very thankful for some hunting time with Tom Lounsbury and son Jake, we were turkey hunting in the Thumb of Michigan. Gary Morgan of Wild Game Dynasty made this possible, also along for this event was Michigan State Calling champion Rod Little. We had two teams Jake and Rod hunting together the A- Team. Tom, Gary and I made up the B--team. I have always believed nothing beat a great place to hunt. Luck would have it the B-Team scored at about 6:50am with a giant group came in and getting a Gobbler by itself was tough, but Tom's 870-20 gauge did the trick. Rod and Jake had to wait till afternoon; his huge bird came in from behind. With a fancy turnaround in the blind Jakes XR #5's did the trick. What a great Father & Son day in the Turkey woods.

Trail cams showed we had Big Bear, and Terry was ready to go all in. First day Bears seen but not him. The big Bear had been at Bait site mid-day on occasion, so we had a plan. Second day Terry got in place i baited at 10:00 and left. Got a text small Bear trying to eat everything. It was well before noon so i came back re-baited and added every scent i had. Around 1:00 i got Message shot Big Bear hearing him moan. So that is when the work started and temp around 83 degrees. Terry's Bear was close to 400lbs and it took atv, ropes, and sled to get out of the swamp. He is getting his Bear mounted and will need a big spot in the Man Cave.

Well opening evening Nate got the Bear he had been waiting a decade for. Trail cams showed a good Bear came in around 6:00pm the day before the opener. So all we needed for him to stick to his routine, and he did. Minutes before dinner time her he came in heading toward dessert left for him. He put the crosshairs behind the front leg for a double lung shot. Nate called me and a couple of friends and soon we were looking for blood. None was found for what seemed like forever but finally was found. After about 6-8 spot the blood no more. So, we started doing circlers and we soon found him. He was a big Bear, close to 300 and we were glad for extra help getting him out. Like Nate said What an Adventure.
