My heart is truly broken. Foo Fighters is the holy grail of rock for me and that will never change. Taylor Hawkins heavily influenced my style of play even when I was playing at church. I knew when I got the look from the music director, it was time to discontinue the Foo Fighters/Gospel mashup. If you hitched a ride with me back in high school, you already knew “Monkey Wrench” was coming through the subwoofer without a care given that I was black living in Riverdale/College Park. So when Taylor became the drummer for my beloved band, the energy only increased. Yeah HipHop, Rap, Trap, Gospel, Jazz, Movie Scores, Classical, and R&B all got their play, but Rock is King.
Rock music is everything for me, it’s built on raw truth and emotion. Foo Fighters was with me as a growing teenager, my first breakup, every high and low, and definitely was there when I was deciding if I wanted to live or not. My only regret was not seeing them when they came to Atl, but the show was canceled due to weather. If you want to understand the power of this band just take a listen to “In Your Honor” and you’ll get it. Rock on guys
