In Women's Football Alliance action, the South's hottest rivalry once again takes center stage in this Memorial Day weekend battle. Fighting to preserve their playoff position, WFA PRO's Alabama Fire (0-3) make the 157-mile trip east on I-20 to avenge their bitter loss from two weeks ago at the hands of D2's Atlanta Rage (3-0), themselves looking to complete the sweep in their regular-season home finale, helping to ensure that their season-ending road trips are their last 'til Canton.
All-time series: Fire lead, 2-1
Meeting of the year: Second
Last meeting: The Rage defeated the Fire 21-6 in Birmingham on May 11.
Thoughts on the Rage: ATL's Big Rage continues to demonstrate why they're one of the best recently launched from scratch teams in all of women's tackle football, knocking off the Carolina Phoenix 49-0 last week in a game that was surrendered at halftime. From Blair Clark's strong helm leadership to Madison Frazer's solid pass game (15/31, 285 yards, 6 TDs and no INTs) to Daniel Doriscar and Camille Christian Dunnings' one-two run combo (combining for 403 rushing yards and 6 TDs) to Jones Kiyana and Ashya Elder emerging as their favorite targets...all the way to the solid defense bolstered by the line led by Ashley Mcdowell, Twinesha Clay, Shawnie Ervin and the backs such as Sebria Douse and Desiree Conner (both combining for four INTs, the Rage are lookin' like they got EVERYTHING it takes to make this the year they make it to Canton and come back home with the D2 ship! By quenching the Fire again to complete the season sweep, the Rage would go a long way towards making sure that, although this is their last regular-season home game, it won't be the last time the loyal Hotlanta crowds will see 'em before Canton-I'm talkin' that home-field advantage here.
Thoughts on the Fire: Thus far, this season has been the toughest in the Alabama Fire's illustrious history, starting at 0-3 for the first time ever against some of the greatest teams in this game. But Champion Lane don't coach no quitters-he coaches a team that's ready to shock the world and get into position for perhaps the biggest dark-horse ride to Canton's prime-time main event on ESPN2 that anybody's ever seen. Destinee Nelson, and Adrian Briskey are among the Bama offense's leaders, with Waynicia Redd Thomas having a HISTORIC defensive season (26 tackles, 13 TFLs 6 sacks!). Redd is joined by Geo da Don, Monei Pres, Adrienne NiKole, Catrina Fincher, JazMeen Nicole, Destinee Nelson and other defensive stalwarts who are ready to ensure that NO team gets past the Fire without a fight, and said fight is gonna be one of the most fierce you've ever seen, not stopping until the 'ship is theirs! By "returning the favor" and defeating the Rage once more, the Fire would solidify their playoff position and demonstrate how serious they are about bringing that natty home to Birmingham.
The questions are: Will the Fire set Atlanta ablaze once again, solidifying their playoff position and demonstrating that they still got a lot in the tank for a big road warriors' playoff run? Or will the Rage pick up the sweep themselves to tie the all-time series and ensure that every step from here to Canton is gonna be simply PEACHY?
