Lady Savage are ready for the WUBA: Interview with Marquis Barnes
The is one of the more successful clubs in the UBA for the last two seasons. Last season they where named Southern Conference champs while starting guard Marquis Barnes made his first All-Star team. After two great seasons the franchise has decided to invest into the WUBA for the now Lady Savage. Marquis spoke to eurobasket during COVID-19.
Hi Marquis where are you at the moment and how is your current mood despite the USA turmoil at the moment because of the out breaks and police violence in your country.
Things are a big crazy at the moment but I feel things will turn around soon. People are just very upset about the death of yet another black man to the police. But we will all be happy when the game of basketball returns. Its one sport that brings all people together. - Why did you join the WUBA?
A: We joined the WUBA because as an owner it has always been my goal to help others achieve greater heights in their basketball careers and with playing in the WUBA we can help them gain that exposure and experience. - What will be the clubs name
A: We are the ATLANTA LADY SAVAGE BASKETBALL CLUB - Who I the featured player?
A: Our featured player will be Jamesha Blake ( ) from Alabama State University. Jamesha began her professional playing career in Morocco, Africa. - Did you name a coach?
A:I will be coaching the ladies this season. Its an opportunity I can't pass up. - Will your team play in both National and Super league?
A:Yes we will participate in both the National and Super league. The fall will be very important for ladies right out of college. With the virus going world wide. I would imagine a lot of teams have to cut budget and sign after the Christmas break. But the summer is for the best of the best when all the ladies return from Europe.
The league has grown a great deal over the years. There will be 30 teams in the league this season. How do you feel the Lady Savage will preform?
A: Yes the league is doing great things. Having Cali and New York join was the biggest surprise. I can't wait to get started. We feel good about our chances this year
